She's a winner

Million Dollar Baby Box Art

Warner Home Video has finally announced the release of this year's winner of the Best Picture Academy Award, Million Dollar Baby . As you already know, the film stars Clint Eastwood (who also directed, produced, and composed the music), Hilary Swank, and Morgan Freeman. The film's theatrical aspect ratio of 2.40:1 will be presented in anamorphic video and Dolby 5.1. This will be a two-disc edition that offers extensive supplements including featurettes and a cast interview. It's due on July 12th for an SRP of $29.95. Be careful, it will be offered in separate widescreen and pan & scan versions. And for $10 more, you can buy the 3-Disc Deluxe Edition that also includes a score CD.

Not quite as firm is Warner's release of Constantine starring Keanu Reaves and the always-charming Rachel Weisz. It's expected within the next twelve weeks and should carry an SRP of $27.95. Once again, watch for two versions, widescreen and that other format; both will have a Dolby Digital 5.1 track. The supplements have yet to be defined officially. There can be little doubt that this title is forthcoming; there is a DVD promo for Constantine on the recently released Blade: Trinity DVD.

Avant Garde

MGM Home Entertainment has announced that on August 23rd, it will release a number of titles it considers Avant Garde. It's a mixed bag of winners and not so much. Expect A World Apart , Four Friends , I Love You , Don't Touch Me , Inserts , The Killing Of Sister George , Kissed , Vincent & Theo , and Without You I'm Nothing . Virtually all will be in widescreen anamorphic, but the most complex audio to expect is stereo. No supplements will be offered on any, but the SRP for each is only $14.95
