Steele, Bride, Assault

Steele, Rem Steele

Remington Steele Season One Box Art

Having prevented Pierce Bronson from accepting the role of James Bond in 1987, I find it somewhat ironic that 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is leveraging Brosnan's later Bondian success on the cover of Remington Steele Season One. "Before he was Bond, he was Remington Steele." This popular television series launched Brosnan's career and established his unique onscreen persona. Years of sexual tension and bickering between Brosnan's Steele and Stephanie Zimbalist's Laura Holt as they solved crimes - he the con artist, she the licensed private detective - preceded the years of sexual tension and bickering between Cybill Shepherd's Maddie Hayes and Bruce Willis' David Addison as they solved crimes on Moonlighting. The four discs in this DVD set will be double-sided and contain all 22 episodes (four with commentaries) and three featurettes. Presented in its broadcast aspect ratio of 1.33:1 and Dolby Surround 2.0, expect an SRP of $39.98. It will be released on July 26th.

Bride And Pride

Bride and Prejudice Box Art

This is an eclectic remake of Jane Austen's often-adapted Pride and Prejudice. It stars former Miss World Aishwarya Rai (said by some to be the most beautiful woman on Earth) in her first exclusively English-speaking role. Aishwarya Rai is an extremely popular actress in her native India, and has made over three dozen films since 1991. This film is Hollywood meets Bollywood, a musical comedy based on Austen's characters and situations. Miramax will release Bride And Prejudice on July 5th with an SRP of $29.99. Details are not available; the title isn't listed on the official Buena Vista press site yet. When I learn more, I'll pass it on.

Carpenter Inspiration

Assault on Precinct 13 Box Art

On May 25th, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release Assault on Precinct 13, a film inspired by John Carpenter's 1976 film of the same name. As in the original, lethal aggressors surround and attack a police station and a sergeant has to organize a defense using both cops and prisoners. Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishburne star. A slew of supplements will include: featurettes (Armed and Dangerous; Behind Precinct Walls; Plan of Attack; The Assault Team; and, Caught in the Crosshairs); a commentary by director Jean-Francois Richet, screenwriter James DeMonaco, and producer Jeffrey Silver; and, deleted scenes. There will be two 5.1 tracks, one in Dolby Digital and the other in DTS, and the film's 2.40:1 aspect ratio will be presented in anamorphic video. Expect an SRP of $29.98.
