Machinist, Wanted, Bart, Postponement

Insomniac

The Machinist Box Art

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced The Machinist for June 7th. From the Paramount press site, "In this psychological thriller an industrial worker hasn't slept in a year and is living a nightmare where cryptic notes appear and he has visions of a co-worker no one else can see. Are these mysteries part of a plot to drive him mad? Or, has fatigue simply robbed him of reason?" Theatrical critics were kind, so I'm looking forward to this film that snuck under my radar. Presented in anamorphic video and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, expect and SRP of $29.99.

McQueen's Launch

Wanted Dead or Alive Box Art

In my review of the first season of the terrific Have Gun Will Travel, I mentioned how television primetime in the mid to late '50s was dominated by westerns. I wrote that Steve McQueen kick-started his career with Wanted: Dead or Alive. The show ran for three seasons on CBS, and New Line will release this first season box set on June 7th. The set will offer all thirty-six episodes on four discs for an SRP of $39.98. Ah, thirty-six episodes - that was a time when a television season really meant something. Supplements will include a six-part documentary about Steve McQueen (titled Life in the Fast Lane), three colorized episodes, featurettes about the series, photo galleries, biographies, filmographies, and more.

Sith Synergy

Bart Wars Box Art

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has a cunning plan. To take advantage of the excitement whirling around the premiere of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith on May 19th, it will offer on DVD a special collection of four Simpsons episodes that reference Star Wars. Bart Wars will be released two days earlier on May 17th; expect an SRP of only $14.98. The featured episodes will be supplemented by bonus features, including The Making of Bart Wars: The Simpsons Strike Back, a hard-hitting behind-the-scenes documentary that blows the lid off Simpson family secrets.

Postponement

Warner Home Video's A Very Long Engagement has been pushed back for a while. The new release date is July 12th.
