Cineaste Truffaut

The Criterion Collection has announced the release of Francois Truffaut's Jules and Jim. This critically acclaimed movie will be released on May 31st for an SRP of $39.95. The 1962 black and white film will be presented in its original aspect ratio of 2.35:1 in anamorphic video and with a French Dolby Digital Stereo audio track. Expect the usual Criterion superlative two-disc special treatment. Supplements will include: two audio commentaries; a new video interview with director of photography Coutard; an interview with co-writer Gruault; a new video conversation between scholars Robert Stam and Dudley Andrew; excerpts from an episode of the French television program Cineastes de notre temps dedicated to Francois Truffaut, a segment from the French program L'Invite du Dimanche (1969) that featured Truffaut and Moreau, Truffaut on novelist Henri-Pierre Roche from the French program Bibliotheque de poche (1966), and an archival audio interview with Truffaut.

On October 4, Buena Vista Home Entertainment will release a 2-disc Platinum Edition of Cinderella. Shown in its original 1.37:1 Academy Format with both a Dolby Digital mono and new 5.1 remix, the DVD set is expected to include: a making-of documentary; deleted scenes; deleted songs; an opening sequence comparison; two music videos; a preview of Cinderella III; and, much more. The SRP will be $29.99. A more extensive Collector's Gift Set will also include a companion book of sketches by animator Ollie Johnston and a numbered film frame; it will list for $49.99.

Miramax will temp double dippers with its two-disc Collector's Series of Sling Blade: Director's Cut on June 7th. The film will be presented with a new anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1. Expected supplements are: two audio commentaries; a featurette about Billy Bob Thornton's rise to fame; interviews and discussions with Billy Bob, Dwight Yoakam, Mickey Jones, Daniel Lanois, Larry Meistrich, Harvey Weinstein, and Lucas Black; a stills gallery; and more. No cover art yet. Expect an SRP of $19.99.
