Insurrection, Sea Inside, Phantom Redux

Issue double dips and prosper

Hot on the heels of our Special Edition review of First Contact comes word From Paramount Home Entertainment that Star Trek Insurrection is to be released on June 7th as a two-disc special edition. Expect generous supplements including a the familiar and informative text commentary by Michael Okuda and Denise Okuda, a multiplicity of interviews, deleted scenes, art and photo galleries, storyboards, trailers, and featurettes. The film will be presented, of course, in anamorphic video, but we can also look forward to a DTS track to supplement the usual Dolby Digital audio.

Who's life is it anyway?

On May 17th, New Line Home Entertainment will release the award winning The Sea Inside for an SRP of $27.95. The film is based on the life of Ramon Sampedro; confined as a quadriplegic, he fought for decades for the right to end his life with dignity. It will be presented with an anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. Extras will include a commentary by writer/director Alejandro Amenabar, deleted scenes, and a behind the scenes documentary.

Music of the Night redux

A kind reader wrote to remind me that when I included The Phantom of the Opera on our DISC NEWS on February 16th, I failed to mention that the film would also be available in a two-disc special edition. It's scheduled for a May 3rd release, and will carry a $29.95 SRP, only $2 more than the single disc edition. I'd love to be able to give you a definitive description of the supplements, but I can't yet find them on Warner Home Video's press site. The only extras I've discovered elsewhere are: two documentaries about the origins of the film's story and the musical on which it's based; and, three featurettes. Consider those unconfirmed.
