The Bends

Life Aquatic Box Art

A double release has been announced for a quirky film that attracted a modest but appreciative audience. Earning less than $25 million at the box office, the film was greatly admired by those who saw it. Buena Vista's Touchstone will release a single disc edition of The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou on May 10th for an SRP of $29.99. That same day, The Criterion Collection releases a 2-disc edition with an SRP of only $32.99 (considering the $3 price difference, it seems silly not to by the Criterion edition). Each will offer an anamorphic transfer with 5.1 audio. Extras on both film discs are expected to include a commentary by director Wes Anderson and deleted scenes. The two-disc set's supplement DVD is expected to enjoy the usual compelling set of Criterion extras, but details have yet to be announced.

Dysfunctional

Meet the Fockers Box Art

Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release Meet the Fockers on April 19th for an SRP of $29.98. The sequel to the highly successful Meet the Parents, this smash hit had moviegoers ignoring its lukewarm critical reception. The film is blessed with a very impressive cast, including Robert De Niro (enjoying a second career as a comedic actor), Ben Stiller (enjoying a first career as a comedic actor), Dustin Hoffman, Barbra Streisand, Blythe Danner, Teri Polo, and Owen Wilson. It's going to be available in both widescreen anamorphic and full screen editions, so be careful. Supplements are expected to include a commentary, featurettes, outtakes, deleted scenes, and cast and crew bios.

Pushing Boundaries

Bad Education Box Art

Acclaimed director Pedro Almodovar's Bad Education comes to DVD on April 12th from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. This NC-17 rated film is about young men affected by a sexually abusive priest. Highly admired by both critics and moviegoers, expect twists and ambiguities, blurring the line between the film and a film within the film. Set during the Franco's fascist regime in Spain, the transgressions were illegal both to man and church. The DVD is to have an anamorphic transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 Spanish track supported by English Subtitles, a commentary by director Pedro Almodovar, deleted scenes, a making-of featurette, and previews. The SRP will be $26.96.
