'Tupac' resurrected, Paramount June catalog; new Miramax SEs; Fox war classics

Back from the Dead - 5:49pm

Kicking off this week's news is the latest from Paramount Home Entertainment. Due on June 15th is the recent Tupac Resurrection, a shot-for-shot remake of the recent Halloween Resurrection, starring Busta Rhymes (okay, just kidding). Paramount will release Lauren Lazin's acclaimed big-screen documentary in separate anamorphic widescreen and full screen versions, each with a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, audio commentary with Lazin, Tupac's mom Afeni Shakur and surprise guests, deleted scenes and additional interviews. Retail will be $29.95.

Also just announced from Paramount are three new politically-themed catalog releases which will hit DVD on June 8th: Goodbye, Columbus, The President's Analyst and The Day of the Locust. All three will be remastered in anamorphic widescreen and feature Dolby mono tracks (except for Day of the Locust, which will get a Dolby 5.1 remix), but no extras. List price will go fro $14.95 a pop.

Just in from Buena Vista Home Entertainment are the full specs for three new additions to the Miramax Collector's Series line, all due on June 1st. At last getting the two-disc treatment, Danny Boyle's Trainspotting will feature a new 1.85 anamorphic transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS surround tracks, an audio commentary with Boyle and crew, deleted scenes with optional commentary, both the original and a new making-of featurette, vintage interviews from the Cannes Film Festival, a still gallery and trailers. Retail will be $29.95.

Also due on the 1st are two cult favorites, both of which will be single-disc sets and priced at a cheaper $19.95 a pop. James Mangold's Cop Land will get a new 116 minute director's cut in 1.85 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1, plus an audio commentary with Mangold, producer Cathy Konrad and actors Sylvester Stallone and Robert Patrick, deleted scenes with optional commentary, "The Making of an Urban Western" documentary, a storyboard gallery and theatrical trailers. Finally, there is the comedy favorite Flirting With Disaster, which is also remastered in 1.85 anamorphic and Dolby Digital 5.1, and includes deleted scenes, outtakes, a vintage featurette and theatrical trailers.

Rounding out today's news is another wave of Fox War Classics, which the studio will debut on May 25th just in time for D-Day. In addition to the already-released Robert Wise classic The Sand Pebbles, the new additions include The Enemy Below, What Price Glory, Morituri, The Hunters and Crash Dive. Each has been newly remastered in their original aspect ratio, and also include a trailer gallery of all the titles in this new War Classics wave. Retail will be $14.95 each.
