'Fog of War,' more Columbia; Warner Cary Grant box set; 'Shrek 3-D'

Lessons in War - 4:30pm

Last night's Academy Award winner for Best Documentary Feature, the acclaimed masterpiece The Fog of War will hit DVD on May 11th from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment. This Errol Morris hit also snagged a slew of nominations and awards from nearly 100 critics groups, and its DVD will come complete with an anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, plus "Robert S. McNamara's 10 Lessons from the Film" in text form, 24 Additional Lessons, and theatrical trailers. Retail will be $29.95.

Also just announced from Columbia TriStar are two more new releases: The Code, featuring an anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, and a special edition of Japanese Story, which is also presented in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1, along with an audio commentary by the filmmaking team, deleted scenes and filmographies. Each disc also includes theatrical trailers, and will list for $24.95 a pop.

Rounding out Columbia's May 11th lineup is the DVD debut of the Rita Hayworth classic Down to Earth, which will get a remastered 1.33:1 full screen transfer, Dolby mono track and bonus trailers. Retail will also list for $24.95.

Cary in a Box - 4:30pm

One of the most beloved actors of our time, Cary Grant will celebrate his centennial this spring, and in his honor Warner Home Video will release The Cary Grant Signature Collection on June 1st. This five-disc box set will include the favorites Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, My Favorite Wife, Destination Tokyo and Night and Day. Each will be remastered in their original theatrical aspect ratios and sound formats, and include a short subject or cartoon on each (that either incorporates or parodies the respective title), plus newsreel footage and theatrical trailers. Retail is $19.95 each, or you can buy the whole shebang for $99.95.

Jolly Green Giant - 4:30pm

Rounding out today's news, it is the return of everyone's favorite big green CGI machine, Shrek. On May 11th, DreamWorks Home Entertainment will release a new Shrek 3-D double pack to repromote the blockbuster flick just in time for the theatrical premiere of its new sequel, Shrek 2. This two-for-one will include the same collector's edition of the film currently available, plus a second platter with the all-new adventure Shrek 3-D. This pseudo-sequel will include four pairs of 3-D glasses, a Shrek 2 preview featurette, and collectible packaging. Retail will be just $26.95 for the box.
