There's No Crying in Baseball! - 12:27pm

Just in from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment is the studio's April 20th lineup of new releases. Making their DVD debuts are reissues of two catalog favorites, with the first to bat A League of Their Own. This sentimental Penny Marshall baseball drama features an anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, audio commentary with Marshall and cast members Lori Petty, Negan Cavanagh and Tracy Reiner, a documentary, deleted scenes, Madonna's "This Used to Be My Playground" music video and trailers. Retail will be $24.95.

Far racier is the cult fave Wild Things, which will be reissued in a new 94-minute unrated cut, although according to the Columbia press materials the disc will not include the audio commentary and deleted scenes that graced the previous special edition. Retail will list for $19.95. And also due for release on the 20th is the direct-to-video sequel Wild Things 2, which will be presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 5.1, and include a making-of featurette and bonus trailers. Retail will be $19.95 a pop, or $36.95 for a Wild Things 2-pack.

Rounding out Columbia's April 20th lineup is the action thriller Tube, starring Asian superstar Sang-Min Park. Featuring a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and English and French 5.1 and Korean 2.0 Dolby surround tracks, extras include a featurette, music video and bonus trailers. Retail will list for $24.95.

This five-disc set includes all 24 first season episodes, each presented in 4:3 full screen and Dolby 1.0 mono. There are no extras, and retail will cost you $49.95.

Also making its DVD debut in May is Samurai Jack: Season One, which will hit stores on the 4th. To be released under the Cartoon Network Collector Series banner, this two-disc set will feature all 13 first season episodes, each presented in 4:3 full screen and Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo. Supplements will include audio commentary tracks, "The Making of Samurai Jack" featurette, never-before-seen footage, and original artwork. Retail will list for $29.95.

Damage Control - 12:27pm

Rounding out today's news is a last-minute street date change for The Ingmar Bergman Collection, which was due to street tomorrow, Febraury 10th, from MGM Home Entertainment. However, due to mastering errors, the set has been pushed back over two months. Here is the official statement from MGM:

"It has come to our attention that the transfers utilized for the release of Ingmar Bergman's Hour of the Wolf Special Edition DVD and Shame Special Edition DVD are not representative of the intended theatrical presentation.

In order to provide customers with the best quality product available, we are recalling the product at retail and will be releasing both films in a 1:37:1 aspect ratio on April 20, 2004. The Ingmar Bergman DVD Collection will also be available on that date. MGM Home Entertainment always strives to provide the highest standard of product and customer care.

For additional information or comments, please contact our customer service at (877) 646-4968."

Note that we will update our review of the set (http://www.dvdfile.com/software/review/dvd-video_8/ingmarbergmancollection.html) when a reissued copy becomes available, and will post information on how to tell the correct copies apart from the recalled releases as soon as the information is made available to us.
