Heart
of the Ocean - 12:50am
It seems James Cameron can still smell the fresh paint. Although
a surprising disappointment at the box office last year, the auteur's
epic IMAX epic Ghosts of the Abyss will get the
two-disc special edition treatment on April 27th. Buena Vista
Home Entertainment will offer both the 60-minute theatrical cut
and an extended 90-minute version, each presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic
widescreen and Dolby 5.1 Extras include the "Reflections
From The Deep" documentary, a "The ROV Experience"
multi-angle feature which always you to dive to the ocean floor
and cruise all the way through the ship, and the theatrical trailer.
Retail will be $29.95.
Stands with a Fist
- 12:50am
Just in from MGM Home Entertainment are more new spring catalog
announcements. Debuting on May 25th is a lineup of western favorites,
including a movie-only version of the theatrical cut of Dances
with Wolves (currently available as a two-disc special
edition featuring the extended cut of the film), as well as The
Last Valley, Junior Bonner (which also
features an audio commentary by Sam Peckinpah biographers Paul
Seydor, Garner Simmons and David Weddle), Duel in the
Sun, Guns of the Magnificent Seven,
The Magnificent Seven Ride, A Minute
to Pray, A Second to Die, Hell in the Pacific,
Custer of the West, Too Late the Hero
and Shalako. All are presented in non-anamorphic
widescreen, except the two Magnificent Seven flicks and Too Late
a Hero, which are in anamorphic widescreen, and Duel of the Sun
and, inexplicably, Dances with Wolves, which are in 4:3 full screen
only. All include trailers, and retail will cost you $14.95 a
pop.
Due on May 18th is yet another title that seems to have been
rushed to market to capitalize on Governor Schwarzenegger, Stay
Hungry. This Bob Rafelson favorite includes a remastered
1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby mono track, audio
commentary with Rafelson and stars Jeff Bridges and Sally Field
and the theatrical trailer. Retail will be a cheapie $14.95.
Last but not least we have Man of La Mancha,
which will be released on April 20th, along with an Elvis Presley
three-peat, Follow That Dream, I Could
Go on Singing and Billie. All feature
4:3 full screen transfers and Dolby mono soundtracks, plus no
extras. List price will go for $14.95 each.
Woo-Vision - 12:50am
Rounding out today's news is a new two-disc reissue of John Woo's
influential A Better Tomorrow and A Better
Tomorrow II from Anchor Bay Entertainment. Due on March
2nd, this set includes 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen remasters,
Cantonese Dolby 5.1 and mono soundtracks, an English mono dub,
talent bios and theatrical trailers. Retail for this set will
be $24.95.
