'Shattered Glass'; four from New Line; 'One from the Heart' D-VHS

Word Play - 12:09am

The controversial tale of disgraced journalist Stephen Glass, Shattered Glass has failed to garner the buzz of some of the bigger indies this Oscar season, but it is well worth checking out on DVD when it hits stores on March 23rd. Starring Peter Sarsgaard and Hayden Christensen, Lion's Gate Home Entertainment will present the flick in anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 2.0 surround, plus a 60 Minutes interview with the real Stephen Glass and trailers. Retail will be $26.95.

Love Plus One - 12:09am

Just announced from New Line Home Entertainment are four catalog favorites, all due to hit DVD on March 2nd. Dog Park, My Family, Safe Passage and New Line CEO Robert Shaye's directorial debut Book of Love all feature anamorphic widescreen and full screen transfers, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround tracks and trailers. Book of Love also includes a DTS option (and drops the full frame option), audio commentary by Shaye and the new documentary, “Meet Bob Shaye,” chronicling his rise as a "Hollywood powerhouse." Retail is $19.95 each.

Heart in a Box - 12:09am

What's up with Francis Ford Coppola's One From the Heart, which will hit DVD on January 27th in a 4:3 full screen transfer? Just announced is D-VHS release, which will arrive day and date with the DVD, but will be presented in 1.85:1, but sans the extras included on the two-disc DVD set. Debate continues about what the proper aspect ratio of the film should be, and according to the press release: "Francis Coppola was an early proponent of high definition, and it is fitting that his experimental and innovative film would take advantage of this first incarnation of consumer high-definition delivery." Retail will be $39.95 for the D-VHS release, and we hope to get some information from Zoetrope in the days ahead regarding why the differing aspect ratios. Stay tuned.
