Blood Money - 4:21pm
What better way to kick off the week than with the latest from...The
Rock? On March 23rd, Universal Studios Home Video will release
his hit drug comedy-action caper The Rundown
in separate anamorphic widescreen and full screen versions. Each
includes Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks, two audio commentaries with
director Peter Berg and The Rock (aka Dwayne Johnson) and the
second with producers Kevin Misher and Marc Abraham, the "Rumble
in the Jungle," "Amazon, Hawaii Style," "Appetite
for Destruction," "The Rundown Uncensored," "Running
Down the Town," and "Walken's World" featurettes,
deleted scenes, the trailer and PC-enhanced extras to be announced.
Retail is $26.95.
Also hitting stores on the 23rd is - yes, be afraid - The
Skulls III. This direct-to-video sequel is presented
in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround
tracks in English, French and Spanish, plus the trailer. Mercifully,
there are no further extras. Retail is $26.95.
A Bear's Tale - 4:21pm
Awwww! They're cute, they're cuddly, and they like nuts and honey.
On March 30th, the gang of Brother Bear will
hit DVD in a feature-loaded two-disc set from Buena Vista Home
Entertainment. This minor Disney animated sleeper gets tons of
goodies: 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and full screen 1.66:1 transfers
(yes, you read that right - don't ask me to explain it), Dolby
Digital and DTS 5.1 surround tracks, an in-character audio commentary
by Rutt & Tuke, the "Paths of Discover: The Making of
Brother Bear," "Making Noise: The Art of Foley"
and "Bear Legends" featurettes, deleted scenes, outtakes,
never-before-heard "Fishing Song," the "Bone Puzzle"
and "Find Your Totem" set-top games, an "Art Review"
still gallery, the "Look Through My Eyes" music video
and "On My Way" and "Transformation" sing-alongs,
and trailers. Retail is $29.95.
Due a week earlier on March 23rd is the decidedly non-family
friendly thriller Dirty Pretty Things. This acclaimed
dark drama from director Stephen Frears stars Amelie's Audrey
Tautou, and features a 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer,
Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, audio commentary by Frears,
a behind-the-scenes featurette and trailers. Retail will list
for $29.95.
Kings of Comedy - 4:21pm
Rounding out today's news is a quartet of great new catalog announcements
from Warner Home Video. Debuting on March 30th are four classic
comedies featuring the talents of such late, great comedians as
Art Carney, George Burns and Walter Matthau. Included in this
collection are: Going in Style, The Prisoner
of Second Avenue, The Sunshine Boys and
The Late Show. Each is newly remastered in anamorphic
widescreen and include trailers plus other new and rare extras:
a commentary by director Richard Benjamin, behind-the-scenes footage
and screen and make-up tests of Matthau, Phil Silvers and Jack
Benny on The Sunshine Boys; a featurette and "Dinah!"
show appearance by Anne Bancroft on The Prisoner of Second Avenue,
and additional "Dinah!" appearances by Burns and Lily
Tomlin on Going in Style and The Late Show, respectively. Retail
will be $19.95 a pop.
