'Wonderland'; Columbia TV on DVD; more 'Re-Animator,' horror news

Kicking off this week's news is the latest from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment, who have just announced their February 3rd lineup of new, catalog and TV on DVD releases. Those looking for a little naughty-naughty should check out the erotic action dramas Sin and Lucky Seven, each presented in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 Retail will cost you $24.95 a pop. And making its long-awaited DVD debut is a two-pack of the hit foreign comedies The Gods Must Be Crazy and The Gods Must Be Crazy Part II. Each is presented in newly-remastered anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 2.0 surround, and extras include two new featurettes, the last known interview with star Nixau, a still gallery and bonus trailers. Retail will be $29.95.

And in their continuing quest to raid their TV vaults for every last title that might sell at least than ten copies, Columbia will also release another batch of small screen favorites. The Best of the Muppet Show: George Burns compiles another three classic episodes on one disc, presented in 4:3 full screen and with no extras. Retail is $19.95. Then Rerun and the gang finally make their DVD debut with What's Happening: The Complete First Season, along with NewsRadio: The Complete First and Second Seasons and Good Times: The Complete Second Season. All include 4:3 full screen transfers and mono tracks, except for NewsRadio, which is presented in Dolby 2.0 surround. Retail is $29.95 a pop, except for NewsRadio, which will set you back $39.95. Rounding out Columbia's TV on DVD lineup are three Cyborg 009 anime collections: The Battle Begins, Good Vs. Evil and a two-disc Uncut and Unedited. All are presented in 4:3 full screen, and the Uncut and Unedited special edition also also includes a making-of featurette, a still gallery with production artwork and limited edition character trading cards. Retail is $39.95 for the two-disc set, and $24.95 for the single-disc releases, which will also be available in a two-pack also priced at $39.95.

Exposed - 5:40pm

While it didn't make Boogie Nights-level waves at the box office, on February 10th, Lion's Gate Home Entertainment will give the John Holmes biopic Wonderland another shot on DVD. Starring Val Kilmer as the legendary porn star with a legendary member, this feature-packed special edition includes an anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, an audio commentary track with writer and director James Cox (really, no joke) and Kilmer, deleted scenes, a short film, actual crime scene walk-through video, autopsy reports (icky!), a still gallery and theatrical trailers. Retail is $26.95.

Dawn of the Dead - 5:40pm

Rounding out today's news is some scare fare for those of you out there already nostalgic for Halloween. That nutty Herbert West is back in the direct-to-cable sequel Beyond Re-Animator, which will hit stores on December 30th from Lion's Gate Home Entertainment. PResented in a special R-rated cut in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby digital 5.1, extras include an audio commentary by director Brian Yuzna, a making-of featurette, music video and trailers. Retail is $26.95.

Next up are the full specs for Artisan's House of the Dead, which came and went last fall but may do better on DVD. Artisan is sure loading up the disc with good stuff: an anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital EX soundtrack, "Anatomy of a Zombie," "Cooking Up Blood" and "The House of the Dead Girls Prepping for the Role" featurettes and trailers. Retail is $26.95 and street date January 27th.

Finally, MGM Home Entertainment has bumped up the street date for Jeepers Creepers 2 a couple of weeks, to December 23rd. Features and retail remain the same.
