Kicking off today's news is the announcement of Ridley Scott's
Matchstick Men, which will hit DVD on February
24th from Warner Home Video. This minor hit will be made available
in both 2.40:1 anamorphic widescreen and 4:3 full screen versions,
each with a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, an audio commentary
with Scott, screenwriter Nicholas Griffin and producer Ted Griffin,
the intimate "Tricks of the Trade" full-length documentary
and theatrical trailers. Retail will be set at $27.95. Also available
will be a two-disc Gift Set featuring both the
DVD and the soundtrack CD in collectible packaging. Retail for
the box will be $39.95.
Another 'Voyage' - 2:29pm
Just in from Paramount Home Entertainment is a batch of new TV
on DVD announcements, including the next in the Star Trek series
of season-by-season box sets, Star Trek: Voyager - The
Complete First Season. This first package will debut
on February 24th and includes all 15 first-season episodes presented
in 4:3 full screen and Dolby Digital 5.1. Extras include no less
than eight featurettes: "Braving The Unknown: Season One,"
"Voyager Time Capsule: Kathryn Janeway," "The First
Captain: Bujold," "Cast Reflections: Season One,"
"Red Alert: Visual Effects: Season One," "Real
Science With Andre Bormanis," "Launching Voyager On
The Web" and "On Location With The Kazons." Retail
for this five-disc set will run you $139.95.
Paramount has also offered a sneak peek at what will surely be
an aggressive 2004 TV on DVD slate. In addition to continuing
the Cheers, Frasier, CSI
and I Love Lucy series, the studio will unleash
first season collections of hits new and old, including Hogan's
Heroes, MTV's Punk'd, Showtime's Resurrection
Blvd. and the ultimate guilty pleasure, Touched
by an Angel. Stay tuned for further details.
And also due in February are a number of exciting new and catalog
releases, including Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star,
The Fighting Temptations, We're No Angels,
The Pentagon Papers and an early Keanu Reeves
drama, Permanent Record. No specs or street dates
have yet been announced, but stay tuned.
Orphaned
'ALIENS' - 2:25pm
Rounding out today's news is are some spec updates. Universal
Studios Home Video will release separate full screen and anamorphic
widescreen editions of Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation
on February 3rd. Each includes deleted scenes, the "Matthew's
Best Hit TV" extended scene, the "Lost On Location,"
a Found In Conversation: Sofia Coppola and Bill Murray" interview,
and the Kevin Shields "City Girl" music video. Retail
is $26.95 for either version.
And Fox Home Entertainment has announced the full specs for the
individual special edition versions of the ALIEN Quadrilogy, which
will be made available separately on January 6th. Each of the
four films - ALIEN, ALIENS,
ALIEN 3 and ALIEN Resurrection
- will, as expected, be two-disc sets with the exact same extras
and material as in the box set, only sans the bonus ninth disc.
Retail will be $26.95 a pop.
