'One from the Heart' specs; 'G.I. Joe' first season; 'Tremors 4'
'Heart' Beats - 5:47pm

Kicking off this week's news is the announcement from American Zoetrope of the full specs for the long-awaited DVD debut of Francis Ford Coppola's One From the Heart. This cult favorite was much-maligned at the time of its original 1982 release but ahead-of-its-time in its use of computer-assisted technology, and now seems like the perfect opportunity for a reevaluation. Rykodisc will release this two-disc set that is quite extensive in its supplements and sporting a new high-definition transfer in the original film aspect ratio of 1.33:1 (supervised by cinematographer Vittorio Storaro) and a Dolby Digital 5.1 remix. Extras include a new audio commentary by Coppola, an isolated 5.1 track with Tom Waits' Oscar-nominated song score, "The Dream Studio" documentary on the history of the Zoetrope Studios, additional "The Electronic Cinema," "Music of One From The Heart" and vintage 1982 "The Making of One From The Heart" featurettes, previously unreleased demo recordings and alternate takes of Tom Waits' score in PCM stereo, deleted and alternate scenes, rehearsal reels, rare Zoetrope archival footage and a still gallery. Retail is $29.95.

Romper Stomper - 5:17pm

He may only be twelve inches tall, but he sure packs a mean machine gun. He's G.I. Joe, returning to DVD in G.I. Joe: Season 1, Part 1. This four-disc set includes the first half-a-season, with each episode presented in 4:3 full screen and newly-remixed Dolby 2.0 stereo. Extras include new interviews with writer Christy Marx and voice director Wally Burr, plus an exclusive collectible animation cell. Rhino Home Video will release this box set on February 3rd, with a retail price of $59.95. Cool.

Sand People - 5:17pm

Rounding out today's news is the announcement of yet another new direct-to-video sequel, Tremors 4: The Legend Begins. This unstoppable sci-fi giant slug series has proved mighty popular on DVD, and the latest chapter will hit shelves on January 2nd courtesy of Universal Studios Home Video. Presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1, extras include an audio commentary with director S.S. Wilson, the "You're on the Set of Tremors 4" and "Dirt Dragons" featurettes, deleted scenes, outtakes, a look at the film's miniatures, Wilson's original student film "Recorded Live," trailers, and as a bonus, a free copy of the first Tremors DVD. Retail will set you back a mere $26.95.
