'Freddy Vs. Jason,' New Line January lineup; Blue Underground cult classics; Universal March catalog

The gloves are off...those twin titans of terror are back and ready to beat the crap out of each other in Freddy Vs. Jason. This $85 million-grossing hit will debut as a two-disc Platinum Series from New Line Home Entertainment on January 13th. Complete with a shiny foil cover, the flick gets 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and full screen transfers, a Dolby Digital EX track (note no DTS option will be included), an audio commentary with director Ronny Yu and slashers Robert Englund and Ken Kirzinger, 18 deleted and alternate scenes including alternate endings and opening, multiple featurettes, a visual effects exploration, storyboards, still galleries, the Nino "How Can I Live?" music video, trailers and TV spots, and ROM exclusives including an enhanced playback mode, a script viewer and the "Cutting Room Floor" editing activity. Retail will cost you $29.95.

New Line will also release the little-seen Reese Witherspoon vehicle Overnight Delivery. This bare bones release includes anamorphic widescreen and full screen transfers, English Dolby 5.1 and 2.0 surround tracks and no extras. Street date is January 20th and retail will list for $19.95.

Still not scared enough? Then check out the latest offerings from hot horror indie Blue Underground, which will release another eclectic classics in 2004 and beyond. Check out their website (www.blue-underground.com) for more details, but fans can expect a number of great new special editions for such faves as Bob Clark's Deathdream, Tom McLoughlin's zombie chiller One Dark Night (starring a young Meg Tilly), David Cronenberg's little-seen Fast Company, a newly-remastered and retooled The Final Countdown, plus Fight for Your Life, Made in Britain, Scum and Jess Franco's The Girl from Rio and Sadomania. Exact release date and final specs are not yet announced, but watch this space for more...

Rounding out today's news are more new catalog announcements from Universal Studios Home Video. On March 2nd comes - yes, it's true - the Problem Child Tantrum Pack, which includes both Problem Child flicks (starring the late John Ritter) presented in newly remastered anamorphic widescreen. You can also pick up both the Flintstones special editions in one box - The Flintstones Yabba-Dabba 2-Pack. Retail is $24.95 each. Other new March releases include reissues ofMad Dog and Glory, Jonathan Demme's Oscar-winning Melvin and Howard, King Ralph and new to DVD, Dragonheart 2: Legendary Tales. All are in anamorphic widescreen but, sadly, Melvin and Howard does not include the audio commentary as heard on the previous Anchor Bay release. Retail is $14.95 a pop.
