'Freaky Friday'; MGM January TV and catalog slate; 'Once Upon a Time in America' specs

Holy remake! The summer's biggest sleeper, Buena Vista Home Entertainment will release the $100 million-plus grosser Freaky Friday on December 16th. Starring Jamie Lee "I look like the Crypt Keeper!" Curtis and Lindsey Lohan, the disc includes both anamorphic widescreen and full screen versions, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track plus some extras: the "Backstage Pass" featurette, a deleted scene, two alternate endings, "comical" bloopers (what other kind are there?) 2 music videos and more. Retail is $29.95.

Just in from MGM Home Entertainment is the studio's January lineup of new catalog and TV on DVD releases.

Yes, they are finally here...two of the silliest if most beloved sitcoms of all time: Green Acres: The Complete First Season and The Best of Mister Ed: Volume 1. MGM will also release Stargate SG-1: Season 5 and, making its DVD debut, Jeremiah: Season 1. Stay tuned for specs...

From the studio's vast library comes a diverse selection of romance and blaxploitation favorites: Just Between Friends, Love at Large, Love is All There is, Sleep with Me, Stanley & Iris, Blacula, Scream Blacula Scream, Hammer and The Monkey Hustle. Sidney Poiter fans call also look for a special three-peat of the actor's best, just in time for black history month: For Love of Ivy, Pressure Point and The Wilby Conspiracy. Retail is $14.95 for each of the above, and watch this space for more.

Rounding out today's news are the full specs for Paramount Home Entertainment's highly anticipated new special edition of the Sergio Leone classic Once Upon a Time in the West, due to hit stores on November 18th. Newly restored in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1, there are extras galore: a new audio commentary with directors John Carpenter, John Milius and Alex Cox, film historians Sir Christopher Frayling and Dr. Sheldon Hall, and additional cast & crew, "An Opera of Violence," "The Wages of Sin," "Something To Do With Death" and "Railroad: Revolutionizing the West" featurettes, location and production galleries and the theatrical trailer. Retail is only $19.95.
