Fox budget lineup; Fangoria Blood Drive; 'Leprechaun' returns

How Low Can You Go? - 4:55pm

Anyone thinking that budget DVD prices couldn't get much lower should think again. Just how low can they go? Fox Home Entertainment may have the answer this holiday season, with a new line of budget-priced new and catalog releases. Debuting on December 16th is the recent indie horror hit Dog Soldiers and the catalog faves The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, Hard Cash, The Pick-Up Artist, Derailed, Greenmail, The Terrorists, Only the Strong and The Circuit. All are priced at a super-low $9.95, and include anamorphic widescreen transfers but, predictably, no extras.

Set for a January 6th is a batch of Cary Grant classics: Born to be Bad, I Was a Male War Bride, Kiss Them for Me, My Darling Clementine and People Will Talk. All are presented in their original aspect ratios, and retail is $14.95 a pop.

Think you got what it takes to make a scary movie? Beginning this month, Koch Vision, in conjunction with the Starlog Group, publisher of Fangoria Magazine, will be giving burgeoning horror filmmakers the opportunity to have their work showcased in a fright-filled DVD release through the first-ever search for the best short horror film with the
Fangoria Blood Drive.

Aspiring filmmakers of all ages and levels of expertise are invited to submit original short-form genre films (less than13 minutes). Koch Vision will release a DVD worldwide in spring 2004, hosted by horror-film auteur Rob Zombie. In addition to the winning entries, the DVD is scheduled to include exciting extras including featurettes on the studios of special effects wizard Stan Winston and the archives of legendary director Clive Barker.

Rounding out today's news is the announcement you've all been waiting for. On December 30th, Lion's Gate Home Entertainment will release the sixth in the venerable Leprechaun series, Leprechaun Back 2 the Hood. Starring Sticky Fingaz, Tangi Miller and Warwick Davis, the flick is presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, and also includes an audio commentary by Davis and trailers. Retail is $24.95. Try to contain your excitement.
