'American Wedding'; new Fox TV on DVD; 'Seabiscuit' soars

The Last Slice - 4:03pm

Debuting on January 2nd from Universal studios Home Video is the final slice of American Pie, American Wedding. Another $100-plus million smash, Universal will release separate anamorphic widescreen and full screen versions of the R-rated theatrical cut, plus separate "Extended Party Editions," also in widescreen or full screen flavors, that feature an unrated cut of the film. And as if four versions weren't enough, Universal will also release the American Wedding Gift Set, which includes the widescreen Party Edition plus a bonus disc, "American Pie Revealed. Retail is $26.95 for the first four versions, and $39.95 for the gift set. Stay tuned for the full specs.

Just in from Fox Home Entertainment is more new TV on DVD announcements. Buffy the Vampire Slayer returns in The Complete Fifth Season, which will hit stores on December 9th.All episodes are presented once again in 4:3 full screen and Dolby 2.0 surround, plus plenty of extras: audio commentary on select episodes, featurettes, a still gallery and episode synopses. Retail is $59.95.

Also due on the 9th is Firefly: The Complete Series. Another creation from the mind of Buffy's Joss Whedon, this sci-fi extravaganza failed to ignite with audiences but Fox will give the lavishly-produced series another shot on DVD. Presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, extras include audio commentary on eight episodes, the featurettes "Here's How How it Was," "Serenity: The Tenth Character" and "Joss' Tour of the Set," deleted scenes, a gag reel, audition footage and easter eggs. Retail is $49.95.

A Horse Tale - 4:03pm

Grossing over $100 million at the box office, the summer sleeper Seabiscuit is already being pegged as an early Oscar contender come awards season. Universal Studios Home Video has just announced a December 16th DVD release for the horse racing epic, which will be presented in separate anamorphic widescreen and full screen versions, each with a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, audio commentary with director Gary Ross and filmmaker Steven Soderbergh, the "Bringing the Legend to Life: The Making of Seabiscuit;" "Anatomy of a Movie Moment" and "Seabiscuit: Racing Through History" featurettes, a special "Photo Finish: Jeff Bridges' On Set Photographs" still gallery and trailers. Retail is $27.95.

Warner will also release a special gift box containing the above plus The Story of Seabiscuit: The American Experience DVD, a behind-the-scenes making-of book, a card set, bookmark and senitype. Retail is $59.95.
