'2 Fast 2 Furious,' 'Scarface'; 'Star Trek V'; 'Sleepless' SE

Just in from Universal Studios Home Entertainment is a speedy September 30th street date for the car porn sequel spectacular 2 Fast 2 Furious. Available in both widescreen and full screen versions, each include Dolby Digital 5.1 surround tracks plus plenty of featurettes "Actors Driving School," "Supercharged Stunts," "Making music with Ludacris," "Tricking Out a Hot Import Car" and "Actor Spotlights," plus the exclusive-to-DVD "Prelude to 2 Fast 2 Furious" along with deleted scenes and an outtake reel. Retail is $26.95. Universal will also release The Fast and Furious 2 Movie 2 Pack, in either widescreen or full screen flavors, containing both 2 Fast 2 Furious and the Tricked Out Edition of the original The Fast and the Furious. (Got that?) Retail is $39.95 for the set.

Also finally revealed are the full specs for Scarface: Anniversary Edition. This Brian De Palma camp classic also streets on September 30th and will be available in both remastered anamorphic widescreen and full screen versions with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround tracks. Extras include the featurettes "The Rebirth of Scarface," "Acting Scarface" and additional interview footage presented by Def Jam featuring today's hottest music stars commenting on how Scarface has influenced their life and music, plus a comparison between the R-rated and TV versions. Other extras include stills and trailers. Retail is $24.95. Universal will also release a special limited edition box set called the Scarface Deluxe Gift Set, which also includes the complete 1932 version of Scarface and collectible packaging. Retail is $59.95.

Just in from Paramount Home Entertainment is their October 14th lineup of catalog releases. New to DVD are the thriller Black Sunday, The Browning Version, the S.E. Hinton adaptation of That Was Then, This is Now, and Ryan O'Neal in Lipstick. Each gets the remastered anamorphic widescreen treatment, plus mono tracks except for That Was Then, This is Now, which is remastered in full Dolby Digital 5.1 surround. There are no extras, and retail is only $14.95 a pop.

And at last, Star Trek fans, the new two-disc Collector's Edition of the much-maligned Star Trek V: The Final Frontier will also touch down on the 14th. While only featuring the original theatrical cut, the film has been remastered in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround. Extras include an audio commentary by William Shatner and his daughter Liz Shatner (also author of Captain's Log, her father's s personal account of the making of Star Trek V), a Text commentary by Michael and Denise Okuda, co-authors of the "Star Trek Encyclopedia," a whole disc of featurettes, including ¥"Herman Zimmerman: A Tribute," "Original Interview: William Shatner," "Cosmic Thoughts" on the religious aspects of Star Trek, "That Klingon Couple" with actors Spice Williams and Todd Bryant on their characters Captain Klaa and Vixis, and "The Green Future?" on the global environment of the future, plus "Harve Bennett's Pitch To Sales Team" and the full-length "The Journey" documentary on the making of Star Trek V. Additional material includes make-up tests, "Rock Man in the Raw" test footage, "Previsualization models, footage from a Star Trek V press conference, deleted scenes, trailers and extensive still galleries with storyboards, production photos and ad materials. Retail is a great new low price of only $19.95.

Rounding out this week's news is the return of one of the most beloved romantic comedies of our time, Sleepless in Seattle (or, depending on how you look at it, one of the most gag-inducing). On September 23rd, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment will release a 10th Anniversary Edition of the film complete with anamorphic widescreen and full screen versions, an audio commentary by director Nora Ephron, the "Love in the Movies" featurette, the "When I Fall In Love" music video by Celine Dion & Clive Griffin, and talent files. Retail is $19.95.

And for you horror movie fans, Columbia has also announced a new low-priced I Know What You Did Last Summer two-pack, featuring reissues of the two Jennifer Love Hewitt killer fisherman flicks. Specs are the same, only the cover art is different, and all this can be yours for only $24.95.
