'Old School'; Paramount summer announcements; new TV on DVD

You laughed, you cried, you wet your pants. Now, on June 10th you can relive the magic all over again when DreamWorks Home Entertainment releases the hit comedy Old School on DVD. Available in three varieties - an R-rated full screen version, and full screen and 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen unrated editions - all come complete plenty of extras: audio commentary by director Todd Phillips and members of the cast, the "Inside the Actors Studio and "Old School Orientation" featurette, deleted scenes, a blooper reel; a still gallery, Academy campaign TV spoofs and the trailer. Retail is $29.95.

Popeye & Co. - 11:13am

Just in from Paramount Home Entertainment is a lineup of spinach-powered fun perfect for the dog days of summer. Streeting on June 24th is the long-awaited, first-ever DVD release of Robert Altman's Popeye, along with the Fran Drescher comedy Beautician and the Beast. Both come in new remastered anamorphic widescreen transfers with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround remixes. Beast also includes an audio commentary with Drescher. Debuting a week later on July 1st is the Danny Glover adventure Flight of the Intruder, along with the oft-postponed The Tenant, from recent Oscar-winner Roman Polanski. Both are presented in anamorphic widescreen, with Intruder getting the full-blown 5.1 treatment and The Tenant mono only. There are no extras aside from a trailer on the latter. Retail is $19.95 each.

For you TV fans, July 1st also brings I Love Lucy: Season 1 - Volume 7 and Volume 8, each which features four episodes a pop, as always presented in their original 4:3 full screen aspect ratios and mono. Extras include additional footage, the original opening, a radio show, guest cast information, bloopers and production notes. Volume 8 also includes an additional featurette. Retail is $14.95 each. More TV fun includes Soul Food: The Complete First Season. All 20 first season episodes of the hit Showtime series are presented in 4:3 full screen and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround. This five-disc set features no extras, and retail is $79.95.

Coming from Lion's Gate Home Entertainment on July 22nd is Kingpin: The Complete First Season; August 12th sees Will & Grace: The Complete First Season; then the end of civilization as we know it, Saved by the Bell: The Complete First Season and The Complete Second Season, both on September 2nd. Lions Gate will also release the five-disc Saturday Night Live: 25th Anniversary Collection on July 15th. Stay tuned for specs.
