To
the Extreme - 1:01pm
What to do when you have no more back catalog to flog and none
of your new movies make any money? Well, you release your biggest
hit on DVD again and again (and again). Just announced from Artisan
Entertainment are the initial specs for the new Terminator
2: Judgment Day - The Extreme Edition. Due on June 3rd, this
one comes only two years after the so-called Ultimate Edition
(uh-huh), and is obviously a tie-in with the upcoming Terminator
3: Rise of the Machines. But this release actually boasts a number
of new extras, and perhaps most exciting (or infuriating) to fans
who bought the other editions, a newly-remastered transfer.
What Artisan says sets this one apart is a new frame-by-frame
digital restoration and 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer
downconverted from a new hi-def master (of the extended cut of
the film - the original theatrical version is not included), a
brand-new audio commentary from director James Cameron and William
Wysher, an interactive mode that takes viewers behind the process
of how the 12-year-old digital-effects-pioneering film was made,
other documentaries and featurettes on various aspects of the
film, and extensive ROM extras including a software tool that
allows users to morph their digital images into a T-1000 or T-800
Terminator. This two-disc set comes packaged in an embossed "endoskeleton"
metal casing and retails for $29.95. The full press release with
all the details has not arrived, but stay tuned...
Just when you thought it was safe... - 1:01pm
Yes kids, ol' Bruce is back! At long last, Universal Studios
Home Video will be releasing two of the most dreadful sequels
of all time, Jaws 3 and Jaws The Revenge on June
3rd. (Of course, how can you not love any movie that features
the immortal line, "You mean we're talkin' about some damn
shark's mutha!?") Jaws 3, will feature a new 2-D 2.35:1 anamorphic
widescreen transfer and English 2.0 Dolby surround track, production
notes and trailers. Jaws The Revenge replaces the now-discontinued
Goodtimes version and also features a remastered 2.35:1 anamorphic
widescreen transfer and 2.0 Dolby surround track, and more trailers.
Retail is $19.95 a pop. Tasty!
Chop socky- 1:01pm
Rounding out today's news is a bunch of new announcements from
Fox Home Entertainment. Fans of chop 'em, sock 'em action have
a lot to look forward to on July 22nd, with a large slate of foreign
favorites, many starring such big stars as Michelle Yeoh and Chow-Yun
Fat. All of the titles in the lineup include new anamorphic widescreen
transfers and Cantonese 5.1 Dolby surround remixes, plus optional
English dubs and English subtitles. There are also many extras
on each, including trailers, production notes and a still gallery.
The titles are: City Hunter (also with outtakes, a music
video and cast interviews), Hong Kong 1941 (with additional
promo materials), Magnificent Warriors (with a music video),
Magnificent Butcher (with promo materials and interviews)
and Naked Killer (with additional promo materials). Retail
on each is $14 .95.
Last but not least is MASH: Season Four, which Fox will
release on July 15th. Like all the previous MASH collections,
this one features each episode in 4:3 full screen and English
mono, with or without laugh track. There are no extras, and retail
is $39.95.
