'Wild Thornberrys Movie,' street date alert, John Hughes delay
Wild kingdom - 12:00am

2002 turned out to be a rough year for traditional animated movies at the box office, with a number of high-profile disappointments, including Disney's Treasure Planet and Paramount's Hey Arnold! The Movie. Another Paramount TV-to-big screen box office bummer was The Wild Thornberry's Movie, which will make its DVD debut on April 1st. Including anamorphic widescreen and full screen versions, extras include "The Wild Thornberry's Game," a music video for Paul Simon's "Father and Daughter," and the theatrical trailer. Retail is $29.95.

Street date alert - 12:00am

Just in from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment are a number of new street dates. Hitting stores on April 29th is the recent theatrical release Lockdown, starring Master P, plus a trio of catalog releases with a watery theme, The Swimmer, Atlantis and Walk Don't Run. Retail is $24.95 a pop, and stay tuned for specs...

Broadway bound - 12:00am

Rounding out today's news, Universal Studios Home Video has just announced specs for three of its big March catalog releases. On March 4th comes the classic Sweet Charity, which is getting a brand-new 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen remaster and an English Dolby 2.0 surround track. Extras are plentiful and include the featurettes "Sweet Charity: From Stage to Screen" and "Edith Head's Costume Design," plus an alternate ending and the trailer. Retail is a mere $14.95. Also due for release on the 4th are The Glenn Miller Story and The Benny Goodman Story. Each is presented in 4:3 full screen and 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, respectively, and English mono. Extras include a trailer on each. Retail is $14.95 a pop.

And in bad news for fans of John Hughes, Universal has just announced a postponement of the 80's teen auteur's holy trinity: Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Weird Science. Originally due this April, no new date has been set as of yet. Watch this space for more...
