'Red Dragon' specs; 'X-Files' Season 7; new Warner collector's box sets

A little bit out of order, but.... First there was The Silence of the Lambs, then Hannibal, and now the first in the wildly successful Thomas Harris trilogy, Red Dragon. Universal Studios Home Video has announced not one but three different versions of the thriller, all due for release on April 1st. Available in single-disc anamorphic widescreen and full screen versions, extras include audio commentary by director Brett Ratner and writer Ted Tally, deleted scenes, serial killer profiles by renowned expert John Douglas, "Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter," production notes, filmographies and trailers, plus DVD-ROM extras including an exclusive Total Axess portal. Retail is $26.95 each. Extras on the two-disc edition include all the contents of the widescreen edition, plus disc two featuring Brett Ratner's Video Diary, two featurettes on the production and "The Dragon Tattoo," Ratner's first film from NYU Film School, and storyboard comparisons. Retail is $34.95.

Mulder & Scully, together again - 12:00am

The truth is out there...again. On May 13th, Fox Home Entertainment will release The X-Files 7: The Complete Seventh Season. This six-disc set features all season 7 episodes presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and English 2.0 Dolby surround, and lots of extras: audio commentary on "First Person Shooter" by Chris Carter, "All Things" by Gilligan Anderson, and "Je Souhaite" by Vince Gilligan, 11 deleted scenes, the 30-minute documentary "The Truth About Season 7," the featurette"The X-Files Profiles," 13 special effects vignettes with commentary by Paul Rabwin, TV spots, and a new ROM interactive game. Retail is $149.95.

Also on tap from Fox Home Entertainment is Dark Angel: Season 1. This six-disc set is presented in full screen and Dolby 2.0 surround, with plenty of extras: Audio commentary on "Pilot" by Charles Eglee and David Nutter, "Rising" by Charles Eglee and Renee Echevarria, "And I Am A Camera" by Charles Eglee, Renee Echevarria and Charles Woolnaugh, and "...And Jesus Bought A Casserole" by Michael Weatherly and Jessica Alba, the featurettes "Genesis," "Seattle Ain't What It Used To Be" and "Creating An X-5," audition tapes, a gag reel, and a trailer for James Cameron's "Dark Angel" video game. Retail is $59.95.

Man of Steel in a box - 12:00am

Rounding out today's news, Creative Design Art in association with Warner Home Video will release three more repackaged collect box sets on February 25th. The three picked this time for the deluxe treatment include Ocean's Eleven (the Soderbergh remake), Amadeus: The Director's Cut and Superman The Movie. Each box comes with the same DVD release as currently available, plus the soundtrack CD, a 35mm limited edition film frame Senitype, a collectible booklet, and a special mail-in offer for a poster reproduction. The Superman set also features a fitted slipcase with 8 lobby cards, 6 black & white stills and a 27"x40" one-sheet poster. Ocean's Eleven and Amadeus retail for $59.98, and Superman will set you back $79.98.
