Street
date alert - 12:00am
Just in from Buena Vista Home Entertainment is a April 29th street
date for Treasure Planet. While the film was a huge bust
for Disney (who reportedly had to take a $70-plus million write-off
to cover the flop), expect a big marketing push to try and recoup
some profits with the DVD release. Stay tuned for specs...
In other Disney news, the studio has added Toy Story and
Toy Story 2 to its "Disappearing Classics" lineup,
when both titles will go on moratorium starting April 15th. While
the titles will remain on store shelves until current inventory
is sold, retailers can no longer place new orders for the titles
after that date. Get 'em while you can.
Western roundup - 12:00am
Howdy, pardners. Paramount Home Entertainment has great news
for western fans, with a big batch of new-to-DVD catalog classics
that will make up the bulk of their April catalog spate. Fans
have quite a bit to look forward to: Bloody Sunday,
Copper Canyon, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, Nevada
Smith, The Carpetbaggers, The Lonely Man,
Big Jake, Rio Lobo, Little Big Man, A Man
Called Horse and Le Mans. Stay tuned for specs...
In disappointingly news for CSI fans, Paramount has also
announced the technical specs for The Complete First Season
box set hitting stores on March 25th. Despite being broadcast
in 1080 1.78:1 HD and Dolby surround, the DVDs will present each
episode in 4:3 full screen and English 2.0 stereo only. There
is no set retail price, but most retailers are pricing the set
at around $69.95.
Truffaut boxed - 12:00am
Just in from Criterion are three new announcements. Streeting
on April 29th is The Adventures Of Antoine Doinel, a 5-disc
set covering four features made by Truffaut that detail the multi-movie
adventures of a character based on the director himself. Beginning
with The 400 Blows and continuing through the 60s and 70s
with Stolen Kisses, Bed and Board and Love on
the Run, and short film Antoine and Colette, Truffaut
collaborated with actor Jean-Pierre Leaud to create a long-running
cinematic character and follow him through marriage, children,
divorce and adulthood. This set will also include documentaries,
interviews, archival materials, newsreel footage and trailers.
Retail is $99.95.
Up next on the 29th is Fredrico Fellini's 1952 comedy The
White Sheik. Presented in a remastered transfer in the film's
original 1.37:1 aspect ratio and Italian mono, extras include
new interviews and trailers. Retail is $29.95.
'Ring' update - 12:16pm
Just is some more news on the highly-anticipated upcoming release
of The Ring, the blockbuster thriller coming this March
from DreamWorks Home Entertainment. The disc will have more cool
features than originally thought, and DreamWorks will unveil the

release of the Japanese original, Ringu. Watch this space!
