'Swimfan,' more Fox titles; new 'Stargate' date; Warner spring lineup

"You said you loved me!" - 12:00am

Coming to DVD on March 11th from Fox Home Entertainment is the teen Fatal Attraction redo Swimfan. This instant camp classic comes complete as a double-sided special edition with 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and full screen transfers, English 5.1 and French and Spanish 2.0 Dolby surround tracks, an audio commentary with director John Polson and actor Jesse Bradford, "The Girlfriend From Hell" featurette, 10 deleted scenes, a music video, and trailers. Retail is $27.98.

In more supernatural romantic fun, Fox will also release the next in its new remastered classics line, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Presented in its original 1.37:1 aspect ratio and newly remastered, extras have not yet been announced. Watch this space for more details, and retail is $19.95.

Also on tap from Fox are the first-ever Strawberry Shortcake adventures released on DVD, Meet Strawberry Shortcake and Spring for Strawberry Shortcake. Each is presented in 4:3 full frame and 2.0 surround, plus a bonus music video. Retail is $14.95 each.

Last but not least we have American Family: The Complete First Season, a six-disc box set of the acclaimed television drama (not to be confused with the current hit series American Dreams). Retail is $79.95, and stay tuned for specs...

Originally expected to debut this past fall, Artisan Home Entertainment has finally announced a new February 18th street date for Stargate Ultimate Edition. This two-disc set includes (at long last!) 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfers of both the theatrical and extended cuts of the film, available via seamless branching. Each version of the film also includes Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround tracks, plus a host of extras: audio commentary by director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin, two featurettes, a still gallery, filmographies and trailers. Retail is a mere $19.95.

Just in from Warner Home Video is a new batch of classic comedies just in time for spring. Hitting stores on April 1st is the Goldie Hawn football funny Wildcats, John Cusack in One Crazy Summer, the flop sequel City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold, and The Spirit of '76. All are presented in anamorphic widescreen and 2.0 surround (Curly's Gold in 5.1) plus trailers. Each will set you back $19.95.

Then on May 13th comes four more laugh riots, the Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby gem High Society, the original 1950 version of Father of the Bride, the Peter Falk hit The In-Laws , and the film that launched the hit series, The Courtship of Eddie's Father. All are presented in anamorphic widescreen and mono (except Bride and Society, presented in their original 1.37:1 aspect ratios) with trailers as extra. Retail is $19.95 each.

After a few months delay, The Barbra Streisand Collection will finally make it to stores on April 29th. This set features four Streisand classics, including Main Event, Nuts, Up the Sandbox, and What's Up Doc? Exras announced so far include a new audio commentary by director Peter Bogdonavich on What's Up, Doc?, and trailers. Each is presented in newly remastered anamorphic widescreen and mono, except Doc? which gets a new surround remix. Stay tuned for further specs, and retail is $59.95.

For you superhero fans, Warner will debut four new animated specials: X-Men: Evolution/Mutants Rising, Batman The Animated Series: Tales of the Dark Knight, Challenge of the Superfriends, and Justice League: Justice on Trial. Each is presented in 4:3 full screen and 2.0 surround, and extras have not yet been announced. Stay tuned, and retail is $19.95 a pop.

Last but not least, the seminal 80's musical Fame makes its long-awaited DVD debut on June 3rd. This one features a new 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and 5.1 surround remix, audio commentary by Alan Parker, and the trailer. Retail is $19.95.
