Paramount triple play, more 'Charlie Brown;' new Anchor Bay titles; Buena Vista catalog

Just in time for spring training, Paramount has a triple play of baseball dramas heading to DVD on March 4th. Classics all, Bang the Drum Slowly, Fear Strikes Out and Talent for the Game each will receive a new anamorphic widescreen transfer, plus their original mono tracks (Talent for the Game is in 2.0 Dolby surround). While there are no extras, retail is but $19.95 a pop.

Also on tap for the 4th from Paramount is It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown. This Peanuts favorite is presented in full frame and 2.0 stereo, with a bonus short "It's Arbor Day, Charlie Brown" Retail is also $19.95.

Just in from Anchor Bay Entertainment are some new box sets and reissue compilations coming your way this winter. On February 4th comes Straight To Hell: The Alex Cox Collection, a $59.95 box set featuring four previously-released titles: Repo Man, Straight to Hell, Three Businessmen and Death and the Compass. There are no new features or changes to these versions versus the previously released editions.

New to DVD is a two-pack of the British action favorites Sweeney and Sweeney 2. Each receives the 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen treatment, plus their original mono tracks and trailers. Retail is $24.95.

Also just announced is The Complete Musketeers two-pack, featuring Richard Lester's The Three Musketeers and The Four Musketeers. Each is presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, with extras including the all-new "The Saga Begins..." and "The Saga Continues..." featurettes, the original "The Making of the Four Musketeers" featurette, still galleries, and trailers. Retail is just $34.95 for the set.

Buena Vista April catalog - 12:47am

Another month, another big batch of new library releases and reprices from Buena Vista Home Entertainment.

Making their first-ever appearance on DVD are: Beyond Silence, Four Days In September, Tom & Viv, Citizen Ruth, Two Much, Scenes From A Mall, Stella, Life With Mikey, and Woody Allen's New York Stories. Retail is $19.95 each. Listing for five bucks cheaper are: My Father The Hero, The Inkwell, An Innocent Man, the infamous Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger romantic comedy The Marrying Man, and Sharon Stone in the death row drama Last Dance. Full specs are not yet available for these titles, but watch this space...

Finally, being newly reduced to $19.95 are: Teaching Mrs. Tingle, The Defender, Twin Warriors, Fist Of Legend, Jackie Chan's Project, Operation Condor, Supercop 2, Twin Dragons, Wide Awake, Wings of The Dove, Sweet Revenge, Georgia, Purple Noon, Best Of The Best 3: No Turning Back, Newsies and City On Fire.
