Fox unveils new hits, TV favorites

Just in from Fox Home Entertainment are the full details on another big batch of new day & date and catalog releases, all due this winter.

Leading the pack is The Banger Sisters, a small sleeper hit this past fall for the formidable duo of Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon. Getting the full special edition treatment, the release includes anamorphic widescreen and full screen transfers, English and French 5.1 Dolby surround tracks, an audio commentary by director Bob Dolman, the HBO First Look special, a blooper reel, and trailers. Retail is $27.95 and street date February 28th.

Also still making waves in the theaters is Brown Sugar, which hits DVD on February 11th. Featuring anamorphic widescreen and full screen transfers, extras include an audio commentary by director Rick Famuyiwa and editor Dirk Westervelt, five deleted scenes, two music videos and the trailer. Retail is also $27.95.

Arriving a week later on February 18th is Sordid Lives, a dark comedy which played to strong notices and good box office in limited release this past spring. Featuring a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and English and French 5.1 surround tracks, extras include an audio commentary by director Del Shores and producer Sharyn Lane, additional cast interviews, six deleted scenes. two uncut songs by star Olivia Newton-John, and the trailer. Retail is a more pricey $34.95.

Fox has also announced another in their new classic film collection, a newly remastered edition of the beloved An Affair to Remember. Arriving on February 4th, the release includes a new 2.35;1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, plus extras including an audio commentary by Marnie Nixon & Joseph McBride, "Shipboard" movie premiere footage, an AMC Backstory special, a still gallery, and the trailer.

More news from Fox are the full details on two new TV box sets. NYPD Blue: The Complete First Season hits shelves on March 18 and features all 20 first season episodes spread across six discs. Presented in 4:3 full frame and 4.0 surround, there's plenty of goodies: audio commentary on one episode of each disc, "The Making Of Season 1," "Love On NYPD Blue" and "Cast Blotter" featurettes, and a script-to-screen comparison.

Finally, the Buffy spin-offAngel: The Complete First Season streets on February 11th. Featuring 4:3 full screen transfers and English, French and Spanish 2.0 surround tracks, extras include select audio commentary, the "I'm Cordelia," "Introducing Angel" and "The Demons" featurettes, and a still gallery. Retail is $59.95 each.
