'Master of Disguise,' more Columbia January titles; new music

The spawning - 12:27am

Following a mildly successful theatrical run this summer, on January 28th Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment will bow the Dana Carvey comeback comedy The Master of Disguise. Presented in both anamorphic widescreen and full screen transfers and English 5.1 Dolby surround, this one comes feature loaded, with an audio commentary by director David Blake and Carvey, the "Man of a Thousand Faces," "Magic of Disguise" and "Identity Crisis" featurettes, deleted scenes and an alternate ending with new "Turtle Guy" intros, a music video, and trailers. Retail is $27.95.

Also on January 28th, Columbia will debut the 1932 Bing Crosby version of Pennies From Heaven, presented in its original 1.33:1 aspect ratio and English mono. Extras are slim, with only bonus trailers included. Also due on the 28th is - at last! - the only James Cameron film not yet available on DVD, the terror sequel Piranha II: The Spawing. Although this little-seen gem has been highly sought-after by fans for years in a quality widescreen version, Columbia has failed to deliver yet again, offering only a full screen transfer and mono soundtrack plus some bonus trailers as extras. Retail is $19.95 each.

Last but not least, the 28th will also see the arrival of the recent limited release dramas The Foreigner and Blood Crime, each with a list price of $27.95. Stay tuned for specs...
