U2 does DVD, more new music; Chapln comes to DVD; 'Wendigo' arrives

As a visual companion piece to their upcoming Best of 1990 - 2000 CD due on November 5, rock legends U2 will release the Best of 1990-2000 DVD on 12/5. Featuring videos for all the tracks on the CD, extras include audio commentary by the directors on all the tracks (including such luminaries as Wim Wenders, Kevin Godley, Stephane Sednaoui, Anton Corbijn and Jonas Akerlund), six bonus music videos, alternate cuts of select clips, and the mini documentary "The Road To Sarajevo," filmed in the Bosnian capital in the run up to U2's historic 1997 concert. Retail is $24.95.

In other music video news, EMI has issued a late announcement for an extensive batch of new music titles, all due on 10/8. A mix of old, new, modern and classical, titles includeTina Turner: Simply The Best: The Video Collection, Pat Benatar: Best Shots: The Videos, Red Hot Chili Peppers: What Hits?, N.W.A.: Only Home Video, Queensryche: Building Empires, Wow Hits 2003: 18 Of The Year's Top Christian Artists, Crowded House: Dreaming - The Videos, Bryan Ferry And Roxy Music: The Video Collection, Let Freedom Ring and God Bless America: With Bill And Gloria Gaither And Their Homecoming Friends, Keith Richards And The X-Pensive Winos: Live At The Hollywood Palladium, Peter Tosh: Captured Live, and the DVD single Real Life from ZOEgirl. Retail is $19.95 each, except the ZOEgirl single, which retails for $6.95.

The Little Tramp comes to DVD - 12:01am

Warner Home Video, in association with French production group MK2, has unveiled the more details onThe Charlie Chaplin Collection, a series of 18 of the filmmaker's silent and sound classics, all digitally remastered and restored. The first three releases in the collection are due in June of 2003, and include The Great Dictator, City Lights and The Circus. Each release will be a two-disc set and include exclusive new audio commentaries, documentaries, outtakes, alternate footage, still galleries, more rare material, and original silent and reedited re-release versions whenever possible. Other titles planned to be included in the collection include The Chaplin Revue, The Gold Rush, The Idle Class, The Kid, Limelight, Modern Times, Sunnyside, and more to be announced. Each title will be released in a two-disc "Digipak" edition for $26.95, and a $34.95 limited edition set with a collectible booklet and film frame. An adult fairy tale - 12:01am

Fresh off of a successful if limited theatrical run and plenty of festival accolades, the adult thriller Wendigo makes its DVD debut on 12/5 from Artisan Home Entertainment. Presented in 1.78;1 anamorphic widescreen and English 5.1 Dolby Digital, extras include an audio commentary with director Larry Fessenden, a making-of featurette, and the trailer. Retail is $24.95.
