'XXX' due December; 'Austin Powers' returns

Subs away - 11:53am

One of the more costly disappointments of the summer season, on 12/10 Paramount Home Entertainment will bow Kathryn Bigelow's K-19: The Widowmaker, the story of USSR's first nuclear ballistic submarine that failed to generate much audience excitement. This Harrison Ford starrer is presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen with English and French 5.1 Dolby surround tracks, and extras including an audio commentary with Bigelow and cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth, 3 making-of featurettes, and the trailer. Retail is $29.95.

International man of mystery - 12:00am

He's back! Bigger! Badder! Bond! (Oops, wrong movie.) Austin Powers, that dashing international man of mystery, returns in his latest Goldmember, set to hit DVD on 12/3. Full specs have not yet been released (watch for the press release on October 7), but New Line will release separate widescreen and full frame versions as part of their Infinifilm line, with extras including audio commentary with director Jay Roach and Mike Myers, multiple featurettes, tons o' deleted scenes, four music videos, and extensive ROM goodies such as a ReVoice Studio a la Shrek. Retail is $26.95 for either version.

XXX marks the spot - 12:00am

A mere week after it fell out of the box office top ten, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment has already announced a 12/31 arrival date for the Vin Diesel action hit XXX. Watch for full details soon...

Also coming from Columbia this December are two recent limited release films, the teen comedy Buying the Cow, starring Jerry O'Connell, Ryan Reynolds and Alyssa Milano, the acclaimed love story Innocence, and the two-disc special edition An Evening with Kevin Smith. Watch this space for the full specs...

And finally for you Superbit fans, Columbia will be adding three more titles to the lineup on 12/17, Resident Evil, Heavy Metal 2000 and The Who's Tommy. Each features an anamorphic widescreen presentation of the film, Dolby Digital and DTS tracks, and no extras. Retail is $27.95 a pop.
