Holy Jodie - 12:01am
Despite winning critical kudos and good Sundance buzz, The
Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys came and went pretty quickly
in limited release earlier this summer, but here's your chance
to give this overlooked little film a shot. On 11/5 Columbia TriStar
will release a special edition of the film with lots of goodies,
including a 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, English 5.1
Dolby surround track, an audio commentary with director Peter
Care and screenwriter Jeff Stockwell, additional commentary on
the animated portions of the film with artist Todd McFarlane,
a making-of featurette, additional cast and filmmaker interviews,
talent files, and trailers. Retail is $29.95.
Next up on 11/12 is the dark German comedy What to Do in the
Case of Fire, presented in anamorphic widescreen with German
and English 5.1 surround tracks, production notes and trailers.
More controversial indie fare will arrive on 11/19, with the hits
13 Conversations About One Thing and Sunshine State.
Both are presented in anamorphic widescreen and English 5.1 Dolby
Digital, and feature filmmaker commentaries and trailers. Retail
is $29.95 a pop.
Finally, on 11/19 Columbia TriStar will also release the Richard
Pryor and Gene Wilder comedy Another You, in 1.85:1 anamorphic
widescreen and English mono, with only bonus trailers as extras.
Retail is $24.95.
Vital Idol - 12:01am
From the press blurb: "You've watched every single dream-shattering
and ear-shattering minute. You've seen A.J. cry like a baby, Delano
finally own up to being an old codger, Simon and Paula slug it
out and Justin apologize for being too big for his "Hey-weren't-you-just-singing-at-a-Bar-Mitzvah-last-week?"
britches."
Yes, the end of the world is upon us! American Idol: The Limited
Edition hits DVD on 10/1, and you just knew it had to happen,
didn't you? This 2-hour delight includes select performances from
the final 10 contestants, show clips, and scenes from the big
September 4th finale. Currently, this title is only available
for preorder via the IdolOnFox website, and click
here for more information. All I want to know is, where's
American Idol: The Complete First Season?
Be a yoga master - 12:01am
After a blink-or-you-missed-it theatrical run last spring, on
10/29 Paramount will release the romantic comedy Triumph of
Love, starring Ben Kingsley and Mira Sorvino. No extras on
this one aside from the trailer, only an anamorphic widescreen
transfer and English and French 5.1 Dolby surround tracks. Retail
is $29.95. Hitting stores on 11/26 is another MTV release, MTV
Yoga, presented in full frame and 2.0 surround with no extras.
Retail is $19.95.
Spidey box - 12:01am
Rounding out today's news, we leave you with a look at the new
Spider-Man Limited Edition Collector's Gift Set, which
delivers plenty of Spidey extras, including the widescreen version
of the film, Stan Lee's Mutants, Monsters and Marvels, a reproduction
of Peter Parker's first comic book appearance, a film cel, and
more. (And unlike Universal, Columbia isn't forcing you to pay
$70 and watch a CGI E.T. to get all the goods.) Retail is $49.95
and street 11/2, and click on the image below for an enlargement.
