'Band of Brothers' announced; 'Spy Kids' box; 'Vulgar' dogma; 'Cosmos' street date

Nominated for 19 Emmy Awards and winner of the Golden Globe for best miniseries, HBO's Band of Brothers makes it way to DVD on 11/5. 'Spy' games - 12:04am

Even though Spy Kids 2 has yet to arrive in theaters, and before anyone even knows if the film will be a hit, it hasn't stopped director Robert Rodriquez from already planning the third in the "trilogy," as well as an eventual DVD box set once all three are done. As fans are painfully aware, the current Spy Kids DVD is devoid of extras, so when is the special edition finally going to arrive? According to Rodriquez as quoted in Latino Review, not until at least Christmas 2003. "I think I'll wait until then to do a triple box set that has all the making of's," he stated, adding that he'd rather "do just one big thing, so I don't have to sell the people the same movie twenty times." Well, ain't that nice to hear for once? Now, only a little over a year to go...

In search of 'Dogma' - 12:04am

Speaking of lost documentaries, remember that "Judge Not: In Defense of Dogma" doc that fans never saw? Pulled at the last minute from Columbia's otherwise-excellent two-disc Dogma special edition released last year, now fans can finally see what all the fuss is about...if they don't mind getting a little Vulgar. Lions Gate will release the View Askew film in separate R-rated and unrated editions, the latter featuring an extra 3 minutes of footage, and both versions will include anamorphic widescreen transfers, a Dolby 5.1 surround track, audio commentary with director Bryan Johnson and producers Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier, deleted scenes, a gag reel, and... the full Judge Not: In Defense of Dogma documentary. Retail is $24.95 for either version.

Street date alert - 12:04am

Just announced from Koch Releasing is a 9/24 street date for Carl Sagan's highly acclaimed and influential masterwork Cosmos. This 7-disc set will include the entire miniseries plus extras, with full specs still to be announced. Retail is $129.95, and stay tuned for more...
