'Mr. Deeds' announced; new Fox titles; 'Company of Wolves' details

Just in time for the big screen debut of the latest Star Trek adventure Nemesis, Paramount Home Entertainment has announced a 10/8 street date for a new two-disc special edition of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. Retail is $29.95, and stay tuned for specs.

Also just announced for a 10/8 release from Paramount is The Carol Burnett Show: Showstoppers, a 42-minute reunion special with clips of some of Carol's best skits. Presented in 4:3 full screen and 2.0 stereo, retail is $19.95. Finally, making its way to DVD is the recent limited theatrical release Lucky Break, starring Christopher Plummer. Presented in 1.85;1 anamorphic widescreen with English 5.1 and 2.0 Dolby surround tracks, extras include the trailer. Retail is $29.95.

Mr. Sandler goes to Washington - 12:53am

The latest Adam Sandler comedy smash Mr. Deeds is coming to DVD on 10/22, complete in a new special edition from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment. Presented in both anamorphic widescreen and full screen presentations with English and French 5.1 Dolby surround tracks, extras include an audio commentary with director Steven Brill and writer Tim Herlihy, two making-of featurettes, deleted scenes, a Dave Matthews music video, production notes, filmographies and trailers. Retail is $27.95.

In what is fast becoming a banner year for horror fans on DVD, indie distributor Hen's Tooth has announced a first-ever widescreen release of Neil Jordan's cult classic The Company of Wolves, starring a very un-Jessica Fletcher-like Angela Lansbury. Featuring a newly remastered 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and English 2.0 Dolby surround track, extras include a still gallery and the trailer. Street date is 10/15 and retail $24.95.

She may have helped propel Tomb Raider to a $150 million-plus gross, but even a star like Angelina Jolie is not immune from the dreaded box office bomb. Debuting 10/8 is the disappointing romantic drama Life or Something Like It, presented in anamorphic widescreen and full frame transfers,with English 5.1 and French 2.0 Dolby surround tracks, an audio commentary by director Stephen Herek, filmographies and trailers. Retail is $27.95.

Also announced from Fox is a 11/5 arrival for The X-Files 6: The Complete Sixth Season. Presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen, extras include the usual goodies: audio commentaries on select episodes, "The Truth About Season 6" featurette, deleted scenes, FX "Behind the Truth" segments, promo spots, international clips, and ROM extras including a new interactive game and weblinks. Retail is $149.95. Finally, from the "nature run amok" direct-to-video genre comes The Rats, a rodents-on-the-loose flick due on 10/15. Presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and English 5.1 Dolby surround, extras include a featurette and trailers. Retail is $26.95.
