I'll bet you one dollar... -12:04am
Well, Paramount really is raiding the vaults this fall and pulling
out some of their top titles, aren't they? Hot on the heels of
all those musicals and horror faves already announced, they're
releasing a whole other batch of top comedies on 9/24. First up
we have the Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd classic Trading Places,
presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and English 5.1 and
2.0 surround, with extras including new retrospective interviews
and the trailer. Up next is another Murphy hit, Boomerang,
also in anamorphic widescreen and 5.1 with audio commentary by
director Reginald Hudlin and extended and deleted scenes with
optional commentary. Rounding out the batch are Major League
and the drug comedy Flashback, both in anamorphic widescreen
and 5.1 with no extras. Retail is $24.95 a pop.
More Paramount titles on the way include more classic television
and MTV favorites, all hitting store shelves on 10/1. The History
of Beavis and Butt-Head features 32 episodes (sans the actual
music videos) on one DVD, while you Real World fans will finally
get The Real World New York: The Complete First Season,
the entire pioneering first season on two-discs, and the "best
of" compilation The Real World: Exotic Vacations.
And Lucy fans will get I Love Lucy Season One Volume 3
and Volume 4, plus the I Love Lucy 50th Anniversary
Special. All are presented in full frame and 2.0 stereo, and
retail is $19.95 each, except for the Real World First Season
and Beavis and Butt-Head sets, which retail for $32.95.
The
story of my life - 12:04am
Just in is another batch of Columbia catalog fare on the way
this fall. The creepy thriller The Collector finally makes
its long-awaited DVD debut on 10/1, and thankfully is presented
in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, though supplements are slim,
with filmographies and the trailer the only extras. Due for release
on 9/24 is the story of my life, Errol Morris' acclaimed documentary
Fast, Cheap and Out of Control, presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic
widescreen and English 2.0 surround, with extras including production
notes and bonus trailers. Finally, 9/24 also sees the release
of the Burt Reynolds cop drama Shamus and the Gene Wilder
and Gilda Radner comedy Hanky Panky. Alas, both are presented
in full frame only with English and French 2.0 stereo tracks,
and trailers. Retail is $24.95 each.
Street date alert - 12:04am
Rounding out today's update, Buena Vista has announced a bunch
of new street dates. Arriving on 11/12 are Bad Company and
The Importance of Being Earnest; then Victory, Frank
McClusky CI and Heroic Trio on 11/19, and finally a
new animated short collection, Holiday Toons on 11/26.
