More Woody; new Uni music; Fox Xmas repromotes; Columbia street date alert
Final cut - 12:38am

If there's one thing you can always count on when it comes to a Woody Allen DVD, it's that you know what you're gonna get. True to form, bearing no surprises is the 9/17 release of his latest Hollywood Ending, which as usual features little in the way of extras. Presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and Allen's trademark mono, the only supplements include the trailer and production notes. Also due on 9/17 is the indie hit Monsoon Wedding, also in anamorphic widescreen with production notes, filmographies and the trailer. Retail is $32.95 each.

Voulez-Vous - 12:38am

Also just in from Universal is a big spate of music titles due this summer. First up on 7/30 is ABBA: The Definitive Collection, a compilation of all of the Swedish foursome's videos including both the ABBA Gold and More ABBA Gold sets in one collection. Also due for release on 7/30 are Black Beach Spring Bling 2002, Aqui Esta La Bachata, Tchaikovsky: Pique Dame and Anne-Sophie Mutter: The Complete Violin Sonatas, then on 8/6 Selpultra: Chaos followed by Oro Solido: Best Of The Best on 8/13. As usual with Uni music titles, there's no extras except some bio and discography info. Retail is $19.95 each.

Fox gives good cheer - 12:38am

Yikes, summer has just started and the studios are getting ready for Christmas!? Fox has just announced a new Christmas DVD promotion to launch on 10/15 and primarily made up of repromotes of some of their classic holiday DVDs: Demetrius And The Gladiators, The Bible, The Robe, the single-disc version of The Sound of Music, all three Home Alone flicks, Toys, the George C. Scott version of A Christmas Carol, and the 1947 version of Miracle on 34th Street. However, they will also issue for the first time on DVD the 1994 remake of Miracle on 34th Street, although specs are still unknown. Retail is $19.95 each.

Street date alert - 12:38am

New Columbia titles just announced include the dramas Enigma and Vanya on 42nd Street due 9/24, and the sequel to John Carpenter's Vampires, Vampires: Los Muertes on 10/1. Watch for full specs soon...

Also announced are the full details on Alan Parker's lunatic comedy The Road to Wellville due 9/17, which alas is another Columbia full frame-only disaster. Audio options include an English 2.0 Dolby surround track and bonus trailers. Retail is a high $24.95.
