Mask of SuperBit - 1:38am
Welp, it just never ends, does it? Just in from Columbia are
announcements for not one but two new SuperBit titles, both due
on 9/17 (along with that Panic Room SuperBit already announced
yesterday.) But both The Mask of Zorro and Snatch
are gonna be SuperBit Deluxe two-disc sets, meaning the movie
on disc one along with Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround tracks
(but sans the commentaries from the already-released two-disc
special editions), and the second disc featuring all the same
goodies as before. Am I the only one who thinks Columbia is starting
to release so many different versions these days that it is a
rather obvious sign of desperation? In any case, both these SuperBit
Deluxe versions will retail for $27.95 a pop.
Also on 9/17, Columbia has announced the Sidney Poitier and River
Phoenix thriller Little Nikita, presented in full frame
only with English and French 2.0 surround tracks, plus filmographies
and trailers and the sole extras. Retail is $24.95.
Mummy animated - 1:38am
Speaking of beating a dead horse, Universal has announced yet
another Mummy movie to hit DVD on 10/1, but thankfully it isn't
that Mummy Returns Ultimate Edition we all fear is coming. Rather,
it's an all-new direct-to-video animated adventure, The Mummy:
Quest for Lost Scrolls. This one is presented in full frame
and 5.1 Dolby surround, with extras including interactive games,
a bonus episode, interviews with the voice talent, character descriptions
and additional DVD-ROM interactive activities. Retail is $24.95.
Spidey? - 1:38am
So, are you one of the gazillion people who saw Spider-Man
and just can't wait for the DVD? Well, it's probably not much
of a surprise ("What!? You mean Spider-Man is going to come
out on video this fall!?") but at last week's big Licensing
International exhibition (yes, they really have a convention for
licensing) representatives on hand from Sony Pictures and Marvel
discussed at length the film's current marketing tie-ins. But
the big news according to numerous trades is that these promotions
will extend to the DVD and VHS releases of the film reportedly
due on 11/12. It's going to be a two-disc set (gee, another big
surprise) and with the film finally starting to die down in theaters,
can an official announcement be anything less than imminent? Stay
tuned...
