| Don't panic! - 1:39pm
Woe, the confusion! Just announced are the details for 9/17 release
of the Jodie Foster hit thriller Panic Room, which will
first come out as one of Columbia's Superbit titles, featuring
just the movie presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen with
DTS and Dolby Digital surround tracks, the usual plethora of subtitle
options, and no extras. But just like the recent Black Hawk Down,
Columbia has also announced that a special edition 2-disc set
is on the way with street date still TBA. As always, stay tuned...
In more of Columbia's seemingly never-ending quest to be just
like rival studio Fox (first one-disc special editions, now this)
they have just announced a new line of Spanish-language DVDs,
which replicate the existing DVD editions, only with Spanish language
and subtitle track options. The first five titles are Hollow
Man, Charlie's Angels, All the Pretty Horses,
Dance With Me and Wild Things, which debut on 9/3 and
retail for $19.95 each.
Brothers
in arms - 12:01am
Just in from Buena Vista are the full specs for The Count
of Monte Cristo, arriving on DVD on 9/3. Although only a mid-sized
hit at the box office, this one will likely do bigger business
on DVD, and Buena Vista has packed this two-disc set with plenty
of extras just to make sure. Presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen
with English and French 5.1 Dolby Digital tracks, extras include
an audio commentary with director Kevin Reynolds and multiple
featurettes: " An Epic Reborn," "The Pen of Alexandre
Dumas," "The Napoleonic World" and "Clash
Of Steel," the interactive breakdowns "Sword Choreography:
The Final Duel" and "Layer By Layer Sound Design: Edmonds
Escape," deleted scenes, and trailers. Retail is $29.95.
Street date alert - 12:01am
Just a quickie date change from New Line for that upcoming
Blade II two-disc Platinum Series edition. Originally slated
for a 9/3 release, it has been bumped up to a Friday release (yes,
Friday) on 8/30. Specs remain the same...
Unhappy
Campers - 12:01am
Oh, c'mon now, if you're a fan of bad 80's slasher movies at
all, you gotta have a soft spot for the Sleepaway Camp flicks,
a trio of yuk-filled maniac-on-the-loose thrillers that are as
funny as they are scary. Although Anchor Bay already released
the first Sleepaway Camp on DVD a couple of years back, on 8/27
Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers and Sleepaway Camp
III: Teenage Wasteland finally arrive, as well as the aptly-titled
Sleepaway Camp Survival Kit, a box set of the entire trilogy.
Both II and III are presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen
and English mono, and feature audio commentaries with director
Michael A. Simpson, writer Fritz Gordon and moderator John Klyza,
behind-the-scenes and outtake footage, a still gallery, poster
art reproduction and trailers, and III also features extra deleted
"gore" footage. The Survival Kit features all three
flicks, a 16-page booklet and collectible med-pack packaging.
(Click on the image above for an enlargement.) Scary! Retail is
$19.95 each or $39.95 for the box set.
Also on 8/27, Anchor Bay will release the Charles Band cheapie
Zoltan: Hound of Dracula(!?) in 1.66:1 anamorphic widescreen
and English and French mono, with the only extra being the film's
theatrical trailer. Retail is $19.95.
