'Showtime,' 'Chronicles of Narnia,' 'Queen of the Damned,' 'All About the Benjamins,' 'Blade II' news

Lights! Camera! Comedy! - 10:46am

It's Eddie Murphy back on the case, and this time Robert DeNiro is along for the ride in Showtime, last winter's sort-of comedy hit. Arriving on 8/13 from Warner, separate 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and pan & scan editions will be released, both with the same extras including an audio commentary with director Tom Dey, producer Jorge Saralegui and editor Billy Weber, the HBO First Look special, 5 Eddie Murphy "Booth Confessionals," 2 extended scenes, the "Premiere Party Sequence," filmographies, and trailers. Retail is $26.95 each.

Trapped in time - 10:46am

Long in coming to DVD, Home Vision has just announced the 8/27 debut of The Chronicles of Narnia, based on the fabled series of books by C.S. Lewis. Originally produced in the late 80's by the BBC, Home Vision will release each "episode" separately - The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and The Silver Chair - plus a box set containing the complete epic. Retail is $24.95 for the individual releases, or $69.95 for the box set. Stay tuned for more details...

Movie of the Damned - 12:04am

How not to follow up a hit movie. Combing two books in Anne Rice's popular Vampire Chronicles series, Queen of the Damned didn't exactly light the box office on fire earlier this year, but it is notable for featuring the last performance by pop star Aaliyah before her untimely death. On 8/27, Warner will bow a special edition in separate pan & scan and widescreen editions of the film, so you can decide for yourself. Presented in 2.35:1 with English and French 5.1 surround tracks, extras include no less than 3 featurettes, audio commentary with the filmmaking team, 30 minutes of "Spellbinding" additional scenes, 3 full-length "Lestat" music videos, the Static X "Cold" music video, a still gallery, trailers, and more. Retail is $26.95 for either version.

All about Ice Cube - 12:04am

Hitting stores on 8/20 from New Line is the recent Ice Cube "family" comedy All About the Benjamins. Presented in anamorphic widescreen and full screen formats with English Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround tracks, extras include an audio commentary with director Kevin Bray, 5 featurettes, a gag reel, deleted scene, filmographies and trailers, plus ROM extras including the complete script and weblinks. Retail is $24.95

Also just announced by New Line is a 9/3 street date for the Wesley Snipes smash vampire sequel Blade II. Full details should be forthcoming in the next week or so, so stay tuned...
