A story of two bits - 1:24pm
More Superbits are on the way from Columbia this summer to feed
all of you bit-hungry fanatics out there, with the arrival on
8/27 of the giant rubber snake thriller Anacondaand the
modern jousting rock drama A Knight's Tale. Both are simple
Superbit titles, not Superbit Deluxe releases, and include only
2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfers, English Dolby Digital
and DTS 5.1 surround tracks, and English, French, Spanish, Portuguese,
Chinese, Korean and Thai subtitles. Retail is $27.95 a pop.
"You let him get away with...EVERYTHING!" -
12:04am
Just
in from Buena Vista are full specs for some of their biggest August
DVD releases. In addition to another wave of low-priced catalog
titles (see press
release), two Oscar-winners are hitting DVD on 8/13. Alas,
the specs for Best Picture nominee In the Bedroom are a
bit disappointing; presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen with
English and French 5.1 Dolby surround tracks, there are no extras
aside from the trailer. Also debuting on 8/13 is Iris,
featuring Jim Broadbent's Oscar-winning Best Supporting Actor
turn. Presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen with English and
French 5.1 surround, supplements include "A special
message from David Hyde Pierce," the "A Look at Iris"
and "Alzheimers Association Honors Jim Broadbent"
featurettes, and the trailer.
Last but not least, 8/13 also welcomes the Nicole Kidman disappointment
Birthday Girl, featuring a 1.85;1 anamorphic widescreen
transfer and English 5.1 surround track, "Behind the Scenes"
featurette and "Somethin' Stupid" music video, and
Ed Wood, the only catalog title of the bunch that features
any sort of extras, including a new audio commentary with director
Tim Burton and actor Martin Landau, "Pie Plates Over Hollywood"
featurette and a music video. Retail is $29.95 each, except Ed
Wood, which lists for $19.95.
As good as 'New' - 12:04am
Rounding out the start of this week's Disc News, Columbia has
announced the full specs for The New Guy, just now leaving
theaters and arriving on DVD on 8/27. But there doesn't seem to
be much here, with only anamorphic widescreen and full screen
versions, English and French 5.1 surround tracks, a music video,
filmographies, and trailers Retail is $24.95.
