Purrfect (09.14.01 - 11:29am)

Columbia has just announced the specs for two new sorta-classic comedies due on 11/27. Paul Mazursky's Moscow On The Hudson features 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and full screen transfers, English 4.0 and 2.0 surround tracks, a commentary with Mazursky, and trailers. Also due on 11/27 is The Owl & The Pussycat, which the press release bills as a comedy starring Barbra Streisand as a "hot prostitute." Yikes. The disc features anamorphic widescreen and full screen transfers, English and French mono tracks, and bonus trailers. Retail is $24.95 each.

'Trek' art (09.13.01 - 3:11pm)

Just received from Paramount is the final cover art for the upcoming Star Trek: The Motion Picture - The Director's Edition, due out on 11/6. Just announced from Creative Design Arts is a new box set of the classic Gone With The Wind. This $79.95 set includes the currently available Warner DVD, along with other collectibles including lobby cards, on-sheet, stills and more. 'Ape' art (09.13.01 - 11:41am)

Here's a little sneak preview of the upcoming Planet Of the Apes two-disc mega-set, due from Fox on 11/20. Click on the box art for an enlargement, and check out the press release for what promises to be one of the most innovative DVD special editions yet.

Make mine music (09.12.01 - 5:03pm)

A number of new music titles have just been announced, and as usual it is quite the variety of different styles and genres. First up, at long last, Trimark is releasing Nine Inch Nails: Closure, on 11/16 with a $29.95 price tag. BMG has a number of new titles, all due on 10/25 - Vertical Horizon: Tourbook 1999-2001, Widespread Panic: Live At Oak Mountain, Queensryche: Live Evolution, Luciano Pavarotti: The Event Live, and Megadeath: VH-1 Behind The Music. All retail for $24.95 a pop.

Also announced by Sony is a new two-disc set, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band - Live in New York City on 11/6. The set features 11 songs not included in the HBO broadcast, as well as "NYC Serenade," a 15-minute featurette with rare interview, concert and rehearsal footage. The concert was recorded in full 1080HD and will be presented in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 5.1 surround, and retail is $29.95.

Space...the final frontier (09.12.01 - 5:03pm)

Hey Star Trek fans, your collection of The Original Series is nearing completion. On 11/27 Paramount will release Star Trek: The Original Series Volume 37 (episode #73 "The Lights Of Zetar" and episode #74 "The Cloud Minders") and Volume 38 (episode #75 "The Way To Eden" and episode #76 "Requiem For Methuselah"), Each disc features the usual full frame transfers, English 5.1 Dolby surround tracks and a $19.95 list price.

Street date alert (09.12.01 - 5:03pm)

Just announced from Columbia are a few new street dates, all for titles I've honestly never heard of! Due for release on 12/11 is Druids, The Following and The Vertical Ray Of the Sun. Watch for specs soon...

On 11/6 Columbia will also release the early Luc Besson thriller Subway. Features include an anamorphic widescreen transfer, English and French 2.0 surround tracks, bonus trailers and production notes. Retail is $24.95.
