Recently, a few online retailers have begun selling some eagerly-awaited DVD titles that have not been released in Region 1. Although initially there was great excitement surround these titles, for the record, many of these are NOT official titles, and the studios in question are pursuing vigorous legal action.

However, it should be noted that although some titles may appear to be bootlegged or from dubious non-studio distributors, copyright laws sometimes only affect other regions. For example, in Taiwan, it is often legal to manufacture "public domain" titles whose copyrights have expired according to Taiwanese law, but it is illegal to export or sell them in other regions. Hence, some older titles may be legit overseas but not here in North America.

Although cataloging the vast array of pirated DVDs out there is far beyond the scope of this site, we do try and update readers on any confirmed bootlegs that come our way. Below you find a small list of known pirated titles we recommend you avoid. These are 9 times of 10 vastly inferior copies of previous laserdisc or even VHS copies. Let the buyer beware, and purchase at your own risk!
