Video: How Does The Disc Look?
Originally shot in 16mm and blown up to 35mm, My Dinner With Andre has always had a very lived-in quality in terms of its visual design, and this 1.66:1 anamorphic widescreen presentation of the film honestly couldn't be much better. Detail isn't shockingly strong, but taking the film's 16mm heritage into account, it's pretty damned solid for what it is. Black levels are strong throughout, color accuracy is warm and well-defined (flesh tones are excellently preserved), and there are no examples of compression artifacting to report.
Audio: How Does The Disc Sound?
There's a definite hiss to this mono sound mix, but Criterion has cleaned up the original track nicely and presents it here with impressive punch. Dialogue, the film's bread and butter, is perfectly audible and front-and-center, and backgrounds/atmospherics add a nice layer of ambience to the film's aural capacity. Nothing mind-blowing here, but the film indeed sounds like it did upon its initial release.
English SDH subtitles are included.
