Video: How Do the Discs Look?
These are British murder mysteries from the mid-1970s: they don’t look great. Presented in their original aspect ratio of 1.33:1, Lord Peter Wimsey’s episodes – as manifested on this TV-on-DVD set – are compromised. Detail quality is smeared pretty much all over the place, color accuracy wavers as well, and to pour salt in the wound, compression artifacting is pretty regularly apparent. The drama within the shows is fine; these presentations are not.
Audio: How Do the Discs Sound?
The Dolby Digital 1.0 sound mixes here are a bit better, but not by much. Dialogue and music are tinny and crackled throughout, but that’s just the way the show was originally recorded. Maybe a fuller restoration would have rendered these episodes a bit more sonically finessed, but as it stands, they’re passable enough.
English SDH subtitles are included.
