Video: How Do the Discs Look?

Eh. The 4x3 presentations on this TV-on-DVD set are passable, but barely so. Not a whole lot of TLC has been put into preserving Father Dowling Mysteries in standard-def – detail quality is iffy throughout, color accuracy fluctuates pretty wildly, and black levels are sometimes all over the place. This is one of those retro releases where you’re just happy it’s available to own at all, not because it looks all that great.

Audio: How Do the Discs Sound?

Ditto with these Dolby Digital 2.0 sound mixes. Does the show sound like originally did? Pretty much. Does it sound particularly strong? Not really. Dialogue is sometimes clear, sometimes not, and the show’s zippy musical score comes through reliably. Totally fine, though not especially notable.

English SDH subtitles are included.
