Another early 2013 throwback British TV-on-DVD set from Acorn - this one's a strange bird, for sure....

Acorn Media / 628 Minutes / 1975-1978 / Unrated / Street Date: January 29, 2013
The cheeky mastermind behind the adventures of Jeeves and Wooster, P.G. Wodehouse has a reputation as being a dashingly reliable weaver of decidedly British yarns. On this Wodehouse Playhouse TV-on-DVD set, we get twenty installments of the author's bristling tales, with proper English folks doing their damndest to act nobly and properly as the situations they find themselves in grow increasingly bizarre and complex.
As the main characters in these tales, Upstairs, Downstairs alums Pauline Collins and John Alderton lead the pack - somebody has to be the lightning rods for jovial set-ups like these. And now for the first time, every installment of the series (it ran from 1975 to 1978) is in one place.
As a DVD set, Wodehouse Playhouse: The Complete Collection doesn't knock it out of the park (A/V quality on a show like this will probably never be great), but if you're in the mood for rollickingly retro UK comedy, this is the place.
