Video: How Does the Disc Look?
The only major downsides to this release are its standard-def trappings. It looks fine on this 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, but I couldn't help but wish things were bumped up a notch: The Story of Film would be absolutely epic in high-def. But as it stands, this five-disc set projects lovely detail accuracy, authentic color quality, and a lack of any major compression artifacting or aliasing.

Audio: How Does the Disc Sound?
Cousins' narration sounds pitch-perfect on this Dolby Digital 2.0 sound mix - it's not necessarily as immersive as a surround track might be, but seeing as the movie is more a lecture than anything else, it works. Movie clips and footage new and old all sound fine, as well.
