This 4-DVD set is enough to make you wish it was opening day 2013 already....

A&E / 360 Minutes / 2012 / Unrated / Street Date: October 9, 2012
Sure, this year's World Series may be already behind us (LOS GIGANTES!!!), but sets like History of the Fall Classic can keep the baseball fires burning long into the winter - over the course of four discs, viewers get a chance with this new set to revisit some of the event's most excellent matchups. It may not be implicitly definitive - especially when compared to A&E's 20-disc World Series collection, but baseball fans will eat it up regardless.
Sportscaster mainstay Bob Costas acts as narrator here, walking us down the aisles of World Series modern and old-school, giving screen time to a wide array of grudge matches and epic games. Because the earliest games took place in a TV-less society (can you imagine?), there is more of an emphasis on games that take place after 1950, but this documentary set nevertheless gives legitimate shout-outs to season-ending matches of yore.
The long and the short of it is that if you're a baseball fiend trying hard to find solace in the knowledge that the 2013 season is still months away, History of the Fall Classic will provide a dusty yet engaging trip down memory lane. The agony, the ecstasy, the heartbreak, the thrill - it's all here. And look: there are the Giants....!
