Psych just might be the goofiest, nerdiest TV show you're not watching....

Universal / 701 Minutes / 2011-2012 / Unrated / Street Date: October 16, 2012

The Indiana Jones send-up on The Sixth Season doesn't hold a candle to last go-round's Twin Peaks semi-reunion - my mind still reels - but even if Psych isn't the steadiest, most roundly satisfying series on the air right now, this writer has definitely warmed up to it. Melding episode-by-episode whodunit narratives with a cheeky, irreverent overall tone, the snarky smarts of Psych are pretty darned irresistible.

Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and Gus Guster (Dule Hill) provide the good cop/bad cop frame in Psych, and their on-screen chemistry is part of what keeps this Sixth Season compilation afloat. In fact, they're pretty much the show's saving grace - without Shawn's faux-psychic aims and Gus' straight-man interpretations of them, the detective yarns in Psych might come up short.

But thanks to the series' nerdy heart and a slate of cameos that would intrigue even a part-time fanboy geek - William Shatner! Danny Glover! Molly Ringwald! - Psych: The Sixth Season ends up being a breezy, enjoyable blast. And as a TV-on-DVD set, you're not going to find too many releases quite as impressive as this one: sure, it'd be nice to see these episodes in high-def, but continue reading to see just how accomplished this edition truly is....
