A review of The Wizard of Oz is almost pointless at this juncture in cinema history. The Wizard of Oz is a staple of the movie world and belongs on every serious film-lover’s DVD shelf.

There have been a few editions of the film on DVD already, but even if the Ultimate Collector's Edition was too much for you, you've officially run out of excuses: With this single-disc BD edition of The Wizard of Oz, Warner offers you a chance to see one of cinema's grandest achievements with stunning clarity and supplement.

When The Wizard of Oz reached its second release on DVD, DVDFile alum Cliff Stephenson wrote a hilarious review:

“A plot synopsis? Are you serious? Anyone who has been alive on the planet for the last fifty-years should already know the story of The Wizard of Oz by heart. The tale of an innocent Kansas teen that gets swept over the rainbow to the merry old land of Oz has become such required viewing that I don't know anyone who hasn't seen it at least once. I can remember having to wait ever so impatiently for its television showing once a year. It would both delight and scare the life out of me, and year after year would always result in about a week's worth of sleeping with the closest light on.

“To me, the reason that The Wizard of Oz has endured the test of time to become a favorite, generation after generation, is simply because it's just a great story, expertly told. It's imaginative and exciting, endearing and compelling. Even sixty years after its original release, is there anything creepier than the winged monkeys? I'm much more likely to wet myself if I encountered one of those winged demons than I would be in the presence of someone like Freddy or Jason.

“But, do you really need me to tell you about the greatness of The Wizard of Oz? This movie's been around far longer than I have and will remain long after I'm gone. Its appeal is undeniable. With as many different filmed and animated versions of this story as have been created, this is the benchmark for this story. No matter what the budget, the cast, or the effects, you could never make a better The Wizard of Oz. A timeless classic.”

But how does this 70th Anniversary Edition differ from last year's Ultimate Collector's Edition....?
